Sin(x)^Cos(x)

According to every computer program I consult, I just broke math. What the hell?

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=sin%28x%29^cos%28x%29
nice graph

Eerily similar to tan x, just a lot more complicated.

Also fixed the link.

Or it could be that they end up wanting to raise things to an imaginary power.  I forgot about that one >.<

Crap, I don't even know what happens when you raise something to i.  Something to look into later today, I guess.

I just coded a function that does sin(x)^cos(x) in the RPGToolkit's scripting language(only thing I have at the moment, and I'm fairly good with it), and it worked fine. Input values of 25, 45, and 90 returned 0.458136, 0.782654, and 1 respectively. I'm not a very good math guy anymore, but I think that's right.

How would y=x^y look?

Isn't it just great when you have a father, which tells you how much of a failure you are to him every day?

How would y=x^y look?
It would only work for a few values, wouldn't it?  I mean, would it actually make a graph?

Exponential growth. On a graph, it'd look like a steep slope that eventually appears to(but never actually does) go straight up(or down, or left, or right, depending on the actual values used).

All this was in the math notes I took(some of the only ones I actually did take notes on) in high school, that my mother threw away >:(.

Well, you could make part of a graph.  y has to be greater than 0 though, or else it only works for negative x and even y, and even then you wind up with imaginary numbers if you take y to be anything other than in integer.  You know, now that I think about what I just said, it simply doesn't work for any nonpositve real number y.  If we take y>0, though, then we can solve for x=y^(1/y), which we can graph.

I dont understand, it's not a real function, you just typed a buncha random shit, because this isnt valid and doesnt works.

It isn't a function, yes, however it is an equation like, for example, x^2+y^2=4, and part of it can be graphed.  So I told him what part can be graphed, the function which defines that part's graph, and why the other part can't be graphed.
