Are English spell checkers the standard the world over? I think spell checkers should remove 99% of spelling mistakes and if you can't just use them then you're being lazy. But if they're not available for other countries then I guess the point is moot.

Considering that many countries do not speak English, I would not expect spell checkers to check for english spelling.

Not to mention that most people don't prepare their posts in word, either.

So? Most web browsers have built-in spell checkers.

I'd love to meet a person who did that.

Funny thing; English(-based) spell checkers it what's causing the Swedish grammar Nazis the most grief. Swedish language writes together words when new words are constructed, in contrast to how English (mostly) work. Grammar Nazi would thus be Grammarnazi in Swedish, but spellcheckers don't recognize "grammarnazi" as a word, even though both "grammar" and "nazi" exist. Cue people pressing space, spell checker recognizing the words, and people thinking they've spelled the word right.
Depending on context, it can change the meaning of the sentence/words quite drasticly.

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.
