In Swedish, "munter" means happy or perhaps more specifically happy in a way that a song sounds happy or a person acts when happy rather than the feeling itself.

Germans know how to be cheerful?

Or is it an anthropological term applied to other cultures?

It's usually just used as a metonomy to indicate an open attitude :p.

I don’t have data to back it up, but it sure feels like power outages in my area are taking way longer to fix than they used to. Going on 10 hours now…

It definitely feels like infrastructure isn’t what it was 15 years ago.

I still posit that civilization had a local maxima of productivity and quality products around 2000-2005 or so, and the crash of 2007-2008 kind of wrecked it… and then 2020 really hindered recovery. And I don’t even live in a war-torn country…

We used to have constant power outages here but the power company finally got off their asses and did something about it, and we hardly have any outages anymore.

While I do enjoy them some times we've got to many cats wandering the house to feel safe leaving to many of those untended for long.

Candles are nice and all, but you can't run a refrigerator on them and they really don't provide enough light to read by without inducing eyestrain. Long and/or frequent power outages are awful.

Oh hey possible infrastructure failures.

I went back to the place I grew up a few weeks ago and they have built soooo many houses in the 8 years since I had returned. Hundreds, if not thousands of them, and I don’t think any public services have been keeping up with all the new people.

The only change I noted was (other than the roads within the housing bits they added) a set of traffic lights were there used to be a tiny roundabout.

So yeah, if you have lots of new houses, chances are the local infrastructure hasn’t kept up with the extra demand, because why would developers care what happens after they’ve sold the property?

Our problem out here has been the power company not giving a shit about maintaining their equipment and facilities.
