I'm alarmed that that has not translated to a significant improvement in cognition and memory, which I'd hoped was caused purely by chronic sleep deprivation.  I'm 31.  I should not be having memory problems like I do.
This is a symptom of depression.
And mad cow disease

Yeah, but this has been going on for like 8 years now so I'm reasonably sure Mad Cow Disease or CJD would have been fatal a long time ago and probably have had other symptoms.

It's definitely a symptom of depression, but it's a thing that's affected me for close to a decade now, whether depressed or not.  I wonder if going 2-3 years with significant chronic sleep deprivation can cause permanent brain damage.

I believe it can, not to mention that depression and anxiety can cause brain damage.

I got way too drunk last night. I feel distressed my wife has to deal with my bullshit.

WTF is oatmeal? If this is just one of these bizarre American words for a perfectly normal foodstuff (porridge, in this case) I will be most upset.

It's porridge, but it's porridge in a country with multiple other types of porridge to contend with... So it needed to stand out.

Isn't oatmeal the kind of meal you make the porridge out of. So it would be oatmeal porridge.

Pretty much, yeah, but the dish itself is also referred to as just "oatmeal" as shorthand. Rather than "porridge" as shorthand.

Oatmeal is cut or "milled" oats, like cornmeal is ground up corn.
I think the name changes if you add too much, like it becomes muesli with seeds/nuts and milk.  Very healthy.
Porridge seems to be any grain (like oatmeal) boiled in water or milk.

I used to just eat it straight like cereal, but that's way too dry for most people.

Just bailed from church because I attended a concert last night and couldn't stop thinking about active shooter situations. Now I'm feeling less panicky and more like an idiot. I really don't want this to become full-blown agoraphobia.

That's an understandable fear, even for something statistically rare.  It sounds like you're overcoming it.
