It's also used for those tiny cloth bumps that form on clothes and blankets from use/washing/whatever the reason they form is. And for the tiny green stem pieces that are left on for example strawberries. The act of removing them from the berry before eating it is known as "to snopp" the berry.

It's not a couple of times a year. Las Vegas was the 273rd mass shooting this year alone.

As for why: a lot of reasons, combined with a low barrier to doing so.

I was making a really neat animated Halloween gif and it was a lot of fun and then I saved it in the wrong format by accident and ruined all the coloring and could not get it back.
