I think someone I consider to be a friend might have decided they don't like me anymore. This sucks.
That kinda happened to me once. It was weird. Not fun.
All of a sudden they weren't keen to hang out anymore, where before we'd been thick as thieves.
I think. I don't have many friendships to compare it to. There was even an awkward moment where I bumped into the guy on the street near where I lived and we made vague plans to "definitely hang out" at some point in the future. Took quite a while before it occurred to me what might have been the problem- the last time we'd hung out he gave me a lift back to my house, and rap came on the car radio.
Of course, rap is to me as sunlight is to a vampire.
I asked something like, "are you a fan of rap?," just tentatively probing the waters there, and the reply was along the lines of "nah not really," so then I followed up with "I can't fucking stand it," to which he made some vaguely agreeable noises followed by awkward silence as the channel remained unchanged.
At the time I assumed he was just the kind of person who leaves a certain radio station on in the car, which is weird but not unforgivable, and didn't think much of it. Quite a while later, though, after we'd stopped hanging out and I'd given up trying to invite the guy to gigs, he started posting a series of drawings/tattoo designs of famous rappers on Facebook.
Seems he was a fan of that
stuffgarbage all along.
So I finally figured out that that one interaction was probably the direct cause of the end of the friendship, whilst I had no idea at the time.
A nice, simple and polite "fuck you" would have been preferable to an unexplained cold shoulder. Not like I would have particularly valued the friendship if I'd known he was into rap, but y'know. Was rather confusing at the time.
