So HP is about to go from company with terrible executives that produces entry-level, shoddy equipment and systems, to an innovator creating something used in every household, that isn't just a laptop with some new features or handheld device?

This should be good for a chuckle.

You've not been looking at HPs stuff for a while, eh? Here's what they have to offer as far as innovation goes:
  • instant dry ink in a fully self contained system,
  • paper that resists fading for 130 years when exposed to light every day,
  • an alliance with Dr. Dre to make an audiophile's dream computer and superior headphones to match,
  • an alliance with BlackBerry and the acquisition of Palm,
  • the ability to hook a printer up to the web and use apps to do things like print straight from Google Maps without ever firing up your computer
  • the ability to email a document or photo to your printer from anywhere in the world, using a specialized, secure email address for your printer
  • and the ability to edit marketing materials straight from your printer.

*list about HP*
Yeah, but their stocks have fallen from ~$50 in March to $39.85 as of today. My investopedia portfolio tanked because of them! I'm down 15%!

Yes, HP does some good work in innovating tech developments. And then the marketing and sales folks get a hold of it and turn it into complete and utter shit. I feel I can make this statement, because I *also* work for HP. I would rather have a f**king root canal with rusty dental tools than install any HP printer from the last three years. Actually, the HP printer situation is a good microcosm of what's wrong with HP--they make it virtually impossible to install a printer without installing 200MB+ of bloatware that promises to do everything but wipe your ass for you. And maybe 3% of users will actually use all that functionality. The other 97% are stuck with crap they didn't want that's now slowing down their machine. And the install tries to communicate with HP's servers during the entire process, ostensibly so that it can automatically check for patches and updates as it's installing. Which means if you're behind a tight firewall (like..oh, say a US government classified network) you have to yank the damn network connection to even get the install to finish.

They've tried to make their products so multi-featured and integrated and idiot-proof that they've made them unwieldy to the point of uselessness. It's the Swiss Army Knife approach to product design, except that the resulting product is a knife the size of a toolbox and weighs twice as much.

And it's going to take a lot more than appointing a new figurehead to straighten that out.

I was at a small party last night. It was, all in all, a great night, up until the point where my friend decides that he wants my seat, and the best way to make me move is to bodyslam me, try to burn me with a cigarette when that doesn't work (ruining my favorite shirt >:(), bite and spit on me when I stop just trying to shove him off me and start kicking him in the head and burning him with a lighter. This went on for a fucking hour, until I finally gave up and went outside. In the morning, he drives off with me chasing his car down the driveway. Fortunately, the other people that were there were still there, and saw this, so I got a ride home from them. >:(

I need better friends, who don't become violently retarded when drunk.

...are you certain you didn't confuse "friend" with "vile enemy"?
