My money worries have returned with a vengeance. At least for a change it isn't mostly due to my reckless spending... this time it's mostly external causes, but that doesn't make it any less unpleasant to have no money to do things for the entire fortnight- the fortnight that's only just started. Fuck. I still feel a seemingly unwarranted amount of anger at myself for the money I have spent.
I guess it's easier to get mad at myself than at the other money-draining problems.

It says a bit about my life that I haven't posted in Happy thread yet. Not even PTW.
Eh, the happy thread (or whatever ridiculous title it has now) is mostly image spam and anime discussion anyway.
There were a couple of other ones for a while but they seem to have died. At least there's still the Drunk thread.

@Yoink:WTF thread, laugh thread, mild sad thread...
Also no, happy thread isn't image spam and anime, that's the anime thread?

*applies pats nonetheless*

A friend and one of his friends were heading to the liquor store, so I decided to go along as well.
I got caught up on this wave of enthusiasm, and then was rather disappointed when we walked all the way there only to discover the store closed earlier than their website claimed. Ended up buying a couple of boxes of mountain dew instead, and now I'm drinking that mixed with some crummy half-strength vodka that was lying around in our liquor collection.

Coupled with the weird vibes currently in my house and I don't know, it's kind of sad.
I wish my earphones worked better, so I could just sit in my room listening to music without hurting my ears.

Wheat tariffs are set to increase the price of bread by ten percent soon. It won't affect me personally too much, but it's going to be a problem for the poorer people.

Nobody is criminally held responsible for anything how many years and years later....

Meanwhile the company executives will use the company's money (not their money) to pay the settlement, maybe if they feel like paying. They won't.
I'm pretty sure if you or I did anything even remotely close to this, we'd be killed.

The poor quality of the loans led to huge losses for investors and a slew of foreclosures, kicking off the recession that began in late 2007 as the housing market collapsed and investors suffered billions in losses.

The bank admitted that it did not share with investors troubling information that it had received about the business practices of some loan originators, and that it falsely told investors that the loans had been checked to ensure that they met quality standards.

In reality, Goldman knew that significant percentages of the loans failed those standards, leaving investors likely to lose money on defaults, the Justice Department said.

Probably happy thread material for SA's wheat farmers though. Such is life.

True enough. The Citizen Is actually reporting (possibly somewhat optimistically) that this shouldn't actually mess with the price of bread too badly. I guess I'll see which news source is more accurate.

Spent about an hour doing a piece for the daily thing I'm trying to keep up with. When I went to save I did everything except press the save button it seems, then I closed photoshop. I am now one hour short without anything to show for it. Go me.

Also I'm tired and hungry and need to go to the store but that means leaving the house, bleh.

I literally hate this persuasive speaking class. I have not disliked a class or instructor this much in many, many years. God knows I am never taking another communication class again.

You don't demonstrate your skill in speaking by giving your speech, don't be stupid. You do it by doing menial paperwork like writing outlines, filling out forms and making PowerPoint slides. Those are the parts that are graded the harshest, not the actual content or delivery of your speech. In a class titled "Persuasive Speaking", that kind of talk is just plain wrong-headed.

Clearly, the most influential speeches of all time were written with the aid of PowerPoint and cute little mind-mapping apps on your phone. MLK's 'I Have A Dream'? Impossible without a PowerPoint featuring copyright-free images and APA citations in the bottom-right corner in ten-point Times New Roman. The Ghettysburg Address? Wouldn't have happened if it weren't for Coggle.it, favorite website of communication teachers everywhere.

Exceptionally horrifying considering that several of our greatest speeches or their defining points (such as the Gettysburg address, or the significant part of the "I Have a Dream" speech) were improvised on the spot rather than planned ahead of time.

Persuasive speaking is a sad topic these days. Many professionals cater down to the lowest common denominator. Many professors don't get it at all. Marketing shows it. Out of touch academics are it....

No one teaches the approach of running themes, self referencing structure, inserted thought completion, etc.

It's a sad commentary, because sadly, it's becoming a non usable format. These days, you have to have a 10 second at most sales pitch, and that's considered long. Also, it had better be enjoyed by the least decent person you can imagine.

At least the professor in my previous comm class got it, in a bumbling out-of-touch way; she was always going on about "three-minute youtubes".
