Everyone has that wish deep down that the apocalypse would come on 2012.
Depends on the apocalypse and what post-apocalyptic fantasies one is harboring at the moment.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I'm looking for a world where I can survive the apocalypse, become an ultimate badass and discover a paradise after about 3 months or so.
I'd go for zombies, though I'd also settle for a future in which radiation gives you super powers. The Fallout alternative, wherein radiation makes zombies, is also acceptable.

Pfft.  No.  I want to get through college, get my game made somehow, maybe do some work for the LEGO company (yeah, that is how much I like LEGOs), get some work as an architect, and build a family.

I can't do all that by 2012.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

Anyway, I die aged 27 in 2019 with a white lighter in my pocket. If I die in 2012, my 27-forever-club dreams will go unfulfilled!

Well, if we can get our hands on some of that super power radiation, it just may be possible..."You there! Get me two tons of uranium and a microwave oven!"
I can't have kids if radiation has rendered me sterile (yeah that's a long way off, but there are some things you really should think about when considering playing with biohazardous materials).

Reading wikipedia's article on the 2012 phenomenon, apparantly most of the 2012 hype is a viral ad campaign for the movie.  My money says that the 2012 movie will suck beyond belief.  It looks like the world is just collapsing for no real reason, looking at the trailers..

Aye. It looks to be hard-core destruction-porn at best. Which would actually work if a lot of people had money burning holes in their pockets and time to kill. Then again, they can do that for free on the internet.

And instead of destruction porn, they can get lady-type porns.

The 2012 hype has been going on far before the movie was even imagined. In fact, I'm betting that the movie is a spawn of the hype, rather than the other way around.

Sure, it was around before the movie.  But most of its strength seems to be recent, as in, it got more popular about long enough ago that it roughly coincides with the start of the making of the movie.  But that's just from what I've seen of people's hype over it.

Well, surely it has nothing to do with it being close to 2012...
