Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Quo Vadis is a pretty solid band.

Ahh, I adore Quo Vadis. Totally worth looking into.

Happy Power Metal Time!™*:
Freedom Call, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Edguy (and Avantasia).
Pretty sure Gamma Ray and Helloween have already been mentioned.

Also good is Falconer. They have a medieval sound and are folk metal, not power.

Too lazy to link to anything, look it up yourself.

*Might not be power metal, I just group these as "music that makes me happy"

The problem with power metal is it's kind of embarrassing.  Hearing some guy singing in a high-pitched voice about dragons and stuff, it's not as cool as it is when you're alone.

Time to revive this, as I hunger for metal.

I've heard Hammerfall, and I like their style, and their themes are hilarious. Stratovarius I picked up on after falling in love with Sonata Arctica. I'll check out Edguy and Falconer. ;D

Haven't read most of the thread, but... lamb of god, opeth, animals as leaders, gojira are all good bands. Plenty more I could name, but there are a few off the top of my head.

I'm partial to Aluminum because it's lightweight, durable and almost impossible to corrode.

...Er, yeah, Ensiferum.

Added: is that a WH40K inspired album?

Yes, that is totally a 40k based album.

The band, I think, is 40k inspired. Inspired in th- BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD

Awesome stuff, but then, you are an Elder Thing. It's expected. :D

I hate to be the burster of bubbles, but most Christian extreme metal is less than awesome.  There are some exceptions (Slechtvalk, some of Frost Like Ashes' stuff) but most of it, meh.

And Bolt Thrower isn't a 40k band.  The name is from Fantasy Battle, and they have a 40k album (As well as a FB album) but mostly they're just about war in general.

They aren't?

I thought Bolt Thrower was an oblique reference to bolters (apparently I'm not at all familiar with FB) :-[

Bolt throwers are a weapon in FB.

Also, I was just listening to Death's cover of Painkiller on Youtube and noticed that Bootube had put a song by Korn in the related videos section.

Dunno if they've been mentioned, but if you'd rather have something with more of a progressive rock/metal bent, I highly recommend Shadow Gallery.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tv7RV99ln7I  34:18 sci-fi epic, woo.

If you want something more like power/progressive/neoclassical metal but without a ridiculous falsetto, try Symphony X.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-mr9TAKMzU  20:42 epic, woo.

If you want the highest falsetto ever instead, and for every single album to be a concept album, Coheed and Cambria.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4-0UvCfYps

For pure 100% awesome, The Protomen.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUpIg9ZFsd4
