This is the new answer to your 4000 stones laying about.

Anyone know of an easy way to export screenshots? I nearly pulled a brain muscle trying to PrintScreen the entire description and save it from MS Paint.

That's the only way to do it.

If you hit Alt+Print Screen it'll only take an SS of the currently activated window.

Too much trouble. I'll just upload a video to DFFD for now.

I have no idea if the text on the planepacked page was exported from the game somehow, or painfully retyped by hand. Probably the first.

Your floodgate may not be as expensive, but it certainly should be longer.

It looks like the wiki page needs adjusting.

As I've said previously, you can force this to happen with timed Dwarf Companion intervention.

There should be a data file of it somewhere in your saved games folder for that fort... If you can find it and export it, you'll have made history. Your game isn't modded at all like the one that made planepacked was? (legal mod, but all the same). It's vanilla?

Then this is landmark.

Right you are. Completely 100% vanilla. No external utilities either.

Might be interesting to see if teh bug can be replicated with outside workshops and the 'dwarves stay inside' order.

Thing is, I can't remember if the order was given BEFORE or AFTER the mood struck.

I might try to reproduce the bug, but it's not on my list of priorities right now. So it might be a little while (read: years) before I get the chance.

In the name of science, I've decided to try to see if this bug can be replicated. I'm embarking in a sheltered valley where I should be safe from outside interference. The current plan is thus:

1. Construct all workshops outside.
2. Once I have internal farms and water sources up, switch orders to "Dwarves stay inside."
3. Wait for a mood and see what happens.

If that fails, I'll try with "Soldiers go outside." If that fails, I'll try leaving the standard orders on, and then switching the stay inside orders on after a mood hits.

I just tried this, and it seems to have worked. I embarked on a Goblin tower, abandoned, then reclaimed so I'd have enough dwarves to qualify for a mood. I then built a mason's workshop outside and started excavating tons of stone. I then used Dwarf Companion to force a mood, and it happened to pick my miner, so I ordered all dwarves inside. The miner claimed the mason's workshop and then started gathering tons of stone. Once I permitted him to go outside, he moved onto his next material and eventually created a Planepacked-esque artifact (no broker, so I couldn't tell how valuable it was). I then did it again and got a craftsdwarf, and was able to induce the same behavior.

Thus, it would seem that if a moody dwarf claims an above-ground workshop and is then ordered to stay underground, he will not recognize that his current item have been brought to the workshop and will immediately set out to fetch another one. I haven't tried switching on "stay indoors" beyond the first material, though - it's possible that you could, for example, force a stone statue to use an arbitrary number of metal bars or gems for decorations.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Well we solved the mystery of Planepacked.  Now to try it with other moods and materials.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Well done, Quietust. (And just as I'd found a nice site, too!) Looks like a new era of megaprojects has begun.
