In part, that's my point. Way to add to the depressingness!

I like steam. It's a storefront, game launcher, and chat program all in one!

And I can use it to browse the fourm while still playing, that's awesome.

Steam is a massive pit of depression for me. In my account, I've got just about every Valve-released game, Fallout 3, IL-2, Flatout 1 & 2, Far Cry, etc. I can't play them. Damn you, four-year-old obsolete-when-I-bought-it laptop! How I long for my still obsolete yet slightly better desktop that could play all of them. Alas, I am in college and have no room for a desktop.

Garry's Mod, how I miss thee...

You can't play fallout 1 and 2 on your four year old laptop?  ???

If you don't own the Graphics cards then it doesn't matter how new it is.

That and Vista/Mac

He has Fallout 3, not 1+2.

... I really don't know what this means... Own... Graphics cards? Vista/Mac?... Maybe I shouldn't be up at 2 in the morning.

Steam is rather nice if you live outside of the US. Though internet connections can be a problem, the fact that we pay about 30-40% less for a new release game over steam compared to storefront (even now we get 90 US cents per AUD, games prices will still be 90-100AUD).over here more than makes up for it.

What exactly does steam have to do with that? you had them on CD's and you still wouldn't be able to play.

Completely false for those of us who live in europe, since Steam charges us in EUR without doing any currency conversion, so games on steam are 30-40% more expensive to buy on steam than in stores.

I don't know if Finland has pricier games than other countries paying euros, but generally games are the same price or cheaper in Steam than in shops, despite the annoying conversion rate.

The only exception being some games by big non-Valve companies, like Arkham Asylum.

Also, I hear that a number of European countries (for example Norway, Spain, Italy) have the real dollar-to-euro conversion rate in use, at least with L4D2.

Don't support the monopoly!

Really :8

Take a look at their most powerful competitor, Impulse.

For things to work right in a free-market society, we need competition. So support Impulse when you can, people!

Steam didn't really have anything to do with my post. It was supposed to be humorous, but it wasn't.

Also, FLATout, not FALLout.

Oops, yeah, I see that now.

But yeah, here in OZ I could easily pay AU $90 for Empire total War for example. On Steam I just bought it for about AU $35-40. I know that was a special, but you will never see a half price special on a new release in australian game retail.

Steam has ups and downs, as you will find out soon enough.
Nah. If you used steam recently you can't really say that.
It's damm stable and fast.
Until you get your account stolen and try to recover it.

Until it hogs your cpu for no reason.

Until it crashes right after you run a game.

Until you notice every valve games prepares to run for several minutes.

Until your internet goes slow for any reason and that simply fucks up steam in several levels.

Steam works well, but it's not always like that. It has ups and downs.

DFC (the Dwarf Fortress Community), its the B12's semi official steam group. We have a TF2 server and stuff.
Someone should create a TF2 map based off of a dwarven fortress, filled with magma if possible.
