Worthy Trade off?
« on: October 11, 2009, 01:06:09 am »

Okay. I'm seriously considering killing off my new legendary bowyer... because he just made a freaking awesome artifact... bar one damn thing.

It's a bow. Not a dwarfly crossbow, an elfy little twig with a string pulling the ends together. I think he's an elf sympathizer. I'd destroy the artifact too if it weren't worth a bunch. So I'll just lock it DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP within my dwarven city, in a chamber surrounded and guarded by magma -_-

Alternatively, I could forgive my bowyer... he WAS possessed after all...

you need to setup a bank for all your artifacts... a bank with pressure plates everywhere, all of which are linked to the while area flooding with magma and the artifacts being sealed in by drawbridges... oh and dont forget the GCS guards

Hrrrm. Was he possessed or is he legendary?

Possessed= No skill gain.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.

Make sure that one one of the squares orthogonal  to the artifact is a window, because you want your dwarves, and trade liasons to be pleased by it's sight, you could use a  wall grate, which could allow faster access then pulling the ump levers that drain, or unlock the many flood gates, bridges, that guard it.

what? WHAT?! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!
T_T I have had -nothing- but possessions...

Also, I'm thinking about that... of course... if I put a glass floor in, would they see what's below? In which case, I could have the best of BOTH worlds =3 (AKA: Installing it directly above or under my throne room for the epicness of it.)

Right now it's just in my MINOR throne room. Well, except for my magnetite armor stand, in my guard captains' room/officer which other wise suck by way of being made of either stone walls (constructed) or clay loam.

Otherwise, I might as well make a new meeting hall with the traps like gerk said.

Walls and floor block vision as far as I know, unsure about grates.

Still, the artifact itself has 4 sets of spikes. I'd say let the dwarf live, since he was fighting the possessing menace and made the artifact as dwarfy as he could manage.

Wait, no I just found out he wasn't possessed. If possessed negates legendary that is. Because he is most certainly legendary. Wait... I'm confusing Possessed with Fey mood aren't I?

It's possible that he was already a legendary bowyer pre-mood, but check your log and see what happened.

Just did. It was a Fey mood. I always confuse those for possessions.

A fey mood dwarf? Then there's no excuse.

I say we give him a fair trial.
1. Construct a 12X1 Hallway.
2. Build spikes on every other step.
3. Link the spikes to a lever.
4. Order him to patrol the hallway.

If he survives a pull of the lever, allow him to live, albiet in shame.

And to think, my bowyer moods always result in farking blowguns, and usually worth less than 5000☼ at that.

Too bad you can't trade artifacts.  Could trade it to the elves just to shame them.  Although it would probably play out more like this:

Urist:  "You guys think you know how to make a bow?  That's not a bow.  THIS is a bow."
Lorien:  "Once that was a tree.  Now it is a worthless bauble, fit only for your kind."
Urist:  "Grrrrr...."
