Digging out the entire bottom floor?
« on: October 10, 2009, 05:55:50 pm »

Can it be done, and would it result in the epic mountain crash I'm envisioning?

Yes, it can be done. Though you'll also have to channel out the entire edge of the map before it'll collapse.

Also, it may not be quite as spectacular as you're envisioning...

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Aww. I'd heard of floors collapsing and destroying a ton of ****, and though I'm not quite sure how to implement it, I figured it would make the entire landscape crumble to dust if I somehow did it on the entire landscape.

Oh well. Guess I'll have to settle for mining out every single square. Hooray big long projects that I quit when I'm barely started! :D

While constructions turn into their components when they collapse, natural walls simply fall down.

There's a video somewhere of someone who did what you're describing (mine out the entire bottom floor, channel out all the sides) on a 2x2 embark zone. The entire zone fell 1 z-level and cracked down the middle, but that's about it. All of the dwarves that were on the surface survived, even!

I did it to a 3x3 area. it takes a lot of time and the crash is not that interesting because even with the best computer when the crash starts DF freezes then finally when it starts going again its about 1 fps till its over. also it can cause the glitch for creatures on the surface where they are just in space and not falling.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Record it as a video, play it back at a proper speed.

Christ, are you dwarves or are you elves? If you think Hell has too many demons, then you kill them till the population reaches an acceptable number.
