Tack. Seriously. You're correcting a Catholic about her church's leader?

Sir! I do believe you are a man!
You're correcting a person on her gender?

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I'm pretty much a bit of everything. I haven't fully read the thread yet, but I'll go back through it in an hour or so to see if someone else already posted something similar.

I was raised a Christian. We never went to church, so it's no big deal.
I read an article comparing how women were viewed to Muslims and Christians. Christians treat them terribly. Being a female is a shame to your parents. All women are temptresses and evil. The Muslim side held both sexes equal, if not females slightly higher.

Now I'm Christian/Muslim. Oh joy. There are other misc. groups in there, but I don't want to waste everyone's time describing everything.

Um, what? Muslim men are allowed to have four wives, am I right?
This whole thing seems to me like an over-generalization. It would help to back up your claim with evidence.
I would very much like to see the article you mentioned. Mind posting a link, if you can find it?

My family is Christian, and I can assure you, we do not shun my sister or my mother for being female.

*edit*

It occurs to me that this discussion is straying slightly from its original intent. Let's try to keep on track to preserve the innocence of this thread.

I think some people are lumping denominations into the whole... Though I've never heard of a Woman hating Christian denomination. I don't even think it is part of Orthodox. (Though apperantly it is a common theme in Cults)

Though it could be regional

Or it could just be individual.

A lot of "Religious" practices people pick up on are more accurately cultural.

I was wrong in my wording. It's been half a year or so since I read the article, but I found it in my search history (Thank you, Firefox). The offending link is here. It's not so much as how the religion hates a gender, it's how the genders are portrayed in their respective holy texts.

Hmmm... I've heard that a lot. To be fair, I would say that although women are often portrayed that way in the Old Testament (like Eve, the temptress) they are often in the New Testament likened to  the pure, virgin Mary (the mother of Jesus.)

That seems about right. The Old Testament contains a remarkable amount of woman-hatery. I think Amos comes the closest to a progressive view.

Also the New Testament, at least until you get to #^#$& St. Paul.

Christianity seriously would have been the coolest religion ever if not for Paul.

Not really. The whole thing is about some nosy old bloke who gets in a tizzy whenever he doesn't get what he wants.

Guys, remember the rules. I know that you're just joking around, but please don't say anything that could set off a fight. This has been a great thread so far and let's keep it that way.

I was on the fence about St. Paul until I read this book which kind of changed my whole perspective on him. Not entirely factual, but it does put things in a historical context. /off-topic

A little easier for hippoman. At least the title clearly displays the gender.

Many of us are the opposite. Like jackrabbit. Only through personality would I ascertain that he is a man.
