Adobe, *Laughs*
« on: October 10, 2009, 12:41:42 pm »

I was wondering the other day, how many people actually have legit version of Flash and Photoshop. So many people have them, and I am doubting they all paid $500+. Just look at all of the flash games that have been made, I wonder how many of those were made with legit versions of flash. But I am not one to talk, my Flash and Photoshop are not legit either. Adobe needs to realize people will not stop pirating their programs unless they lower the price, I mean who pays $1000+ for both Flash and Photoshop?

I don't have either.  If I ever want to animate something (I suck at it, so it's pretty rare) I use my school's copy.  And photoshop... well, GIMP is good enough for my purposes.

There are some cheaper editors that can create Flash movies and run scripts. But I do not know if there are any free and even if they are, I strongly doubt users are actually using them.

Yes, piracy in this case will be very high, but still Adobe is making lots of money, so I think they just tolerate it (at least unless authors are using it for fun and not to make money).

I use GIMP, and there has to be a free flash editor out there somewhere. Just looking around, it seems there's tons that have a free trial with a watermark or whatever, and cost 50-150 dollars for the full version.

Swfmill and mtasc: Free, *open source*, command-line based actionscript 2 compiler set. And swfmill only packages the compiled code with the other resources, so it works with *any* compiler.

Also, apparently, mtasc is *better* than the default compiler. Unless you want to use recent language developments.

Hah, you think Photoshop is outrageous?  Adobe Premiere Pro costs $800.

And Premiere is a worthless piece of junk.

Hopefully, HTML5 can provide an open alternative to Flash.

If you have a browser capable of html5, then poke around here to see what I mean. http://www.chromeexperiments.com/

Ha, I remember back when flash cost only over 300.

Obviously piracy is not an issue for them.

If Adobe were willing to price their products reasonably, maybe people might buy them.

Instead of, you know, not.

Cause 2 and a half thousand dollars is totally reasonable for the Creative Suite. It's clearly worth half as much as a decent used car.

Or, you know, not.

Woah, seriously?  Sounds pretty ridiculous.  I mean, I could buy an absolutely incredible computer for that much...

That's the master edition, but the most absolute basic edition for CS4 will rack you up $1800.

Frankly, it's just rediculous. Plus Adobe have a huge reputation as absolute dicks, so with that combined with their massive overpricing they're one of the few companies i don't feel guilty about pirating stuff from.

I suppose if you were a big company that needed the software you might buy it.

Maybe.

Might be expensive when you don't have a full time job, but you can save up that amount of money easy after a couple of paychecks if you have even a mediocre income.
