Also: Why are there so few Kineticist powers at and after Power Level 6?
And the ones that are there are mostly defensive, with the exception of Tornado Blast at Power Level 9.

Perhaps you just need to find yourself a good supplemental book? The SRD is woefully inadequate compared to the scope of the entire collection of books.

Normally at this point I would suggest going to CrystalKeep, but they don't seem to give much of a crap about psionics... perhaps the DM can suggest a good book or two for you to get your hands on?

No, I think I've found out why.

Augment: For every additional power point you spend, this power’s damage increases by one die (d6) and its save DC increases by 1.

Nearly every 'energy' power has something like this, essentially letting me turn them into high level spells, but keeping their shape, which is nice when you've got such an uncoordinated party like us.
