Finished year 2! It was much more eventful than the first. Started it of with my champions purging the local area of dark gnomes. Then I got a migrant wave that more than doubled my population. In summer humans came with a shiny new anvil for me and I had a strange mood. Annoying, really. I was happy for the mood, sad it was a possession, ecstatic it was a bowyer, then on the verge of suicide when he made a bow. Damn. My hunter was killed by a giant eagle, so I purged the surroundings again.

Nothing really amazing happened in autumn, but in winter there was some frustration as my new hunter took a nap outside and was mauled by a harpy. Also: 9th Obsidian 82 was the date I cleared the pool. In other words, late winter year 2.

The kill count was wrong in year one, as I forgot to not count non-savage beast.
Kill count this year : 35 (inc 2 named)

For the horse, though, it's possible that wild horses migrated in, knocked her up, and migrated off.
Did they even call afterward?

Finished my first year. Had a small scare when my only soldier got injured towards the end of winter but the water unfroze before he even got thirsty. I'm not really aiming for the most wealth, instead I'm focusing on some of the other possible awards, and I'll have more to say on that in a few years. I should be getting migrants in the spring, and then progress will speed up drastically.

Kill count: 30
8 harpies(1 named, probably from killing war dogs)
5 slugman
1 kobold thief
1 sasquatch
1 mountain goat
8 dark gnomes
6 beak dogs

sarack, he's not wearing them, its a wrestling bug, they rip them off other dwarfs, then sort of, forget to drop them, you will need to either dump of forbid them to get them back, the point is you have a barefoot dwarf somewhere.

Anywhoo, my fortress is up to speed now, got some migrants, lost only around five dwarfs so far, getting a military up to speed and plated up, and my megaconstruction is taking shape.

Aaaaand the second year was going good, had some wrestler killing beak dog ! All female wrestlers actually... Something about the mud... Anyway  ;D !

My melting industries was great, had a lot of coke ready for it, lot of magnetite, some flux stone.

I started digging a pit for housing (near the chasm and water pool) then it crashed.  :-\

IT SUCKS !!

I wonder if I'll start again or wait for the next survival game, since this one is way too easy.

End of Year 2

Created wealth 145759 (106159 without artifacts)
Population 34
Prepared meals 242 (I am not forbidding them though)
Kills
Dark gnomes 4
Cave Croc 1
Giant Olm 1
Naked Mole Dog 7
Giant Rat 1
Large Rat 1
Giant Cave Swallow 1
Troll 1
Kobold 1
Snailman 4
Harpy 3
Frogman 6
Lizardman 4
Olmman 6
Snakeman 3
Antman 5
Cave Swallowman 4
Goblin 5

I haven't seen any evil creatures outside since the first winter.  If I get some migrants to haul things, I'll be able to free some dwarves up to finish my surface flash freeze trap and the ballista/moving walkway/spike trap hallway.

I cleared the pond about halfway through year 2 and finished clearing the pit except for one cave swallowman who is hiding down on the bottom level.  He keeps moving to another sheltered place whenever I create an opening near him, so he can live for now.  I have not lost any dwarves yet.

So far I have had two moods, a fey mood on my legendary miner resulting in a quern (6000) and a possessed mood on a planter reslting in an idol (33600)

Year 3 was not a good year for caravans. Both the elven and dwarven caravans were attacked by beak dogs; an elven merchant, the village liaison, and a random guard died, and the survivors ran off. In the spring, when I sent the squad out to defend the elven caravan, one of my wrestlers was wounded. Before we could get out to help him, harpies attacked him. We killed them, and the spring goblin ambush spawned on top of him. Once he bled to death, though, no more problems. I guess it was just his time.

Spring was when I decided to clear the pit. I lost 2 fighters and a wardog killing the naked mole dogs, particularly "Brainraven". He just would not go down. Nothing else gave us any trouble, though. One squad ganged up to push the troll into the pit, or at least that's what it looked like. There's still one cave swallowman wandering around somewhere, but it hasn't caused any trouble. Much like the beasts in the pond - only 1 frogman has ever gotten out. It probably helps that the pond is a level lower than it started, from irrigating my future treefarm.

The goblin's timing was off for the human caravan; I managed to buy the caravan out before the summer ambush hit, and between us we made short work of the goblins. The event was commemorated on the antman bone coffin I got from my bone carver's mood ("The goblin makes a plaintive gesture. The human is laughing.") The event wasn't nearly as important as the steel grate from last year, though, which showed up in three separate materials on that same coffin. I guess they really, really like that grate. Other artifacts this year: a leather face veil and a marble quern.

Maggot ranching is not going well. I keep running out of meat to bait the traps, and dwarves keep eating the maggots (usually the trapper or the milker, go figure). I've tried forbidding them, but then the maggots get dropped and vanish pretty quickly. So I'm not putting much effort into that.

Walled off the magnetite plateau so I can mine it all out without interference... not that I need the metal, given all the other ore around, but it's right there and it needs to be smoothed.

Oh, and I found bauxite. Which will be useful if I ever get to the magma, but I'm sure I won't be clearing HFS in the 5 year time. I don't have the soldiers to do it and survive, pretty sure anyway. Although I might give it a try -- I've never actually seen HFS in a game yet.

Kill totals, cumulative:
11 dark gnomes
11 beak dogs, 2 named
1 giant eagle
8 harpies
6 naked mole dogs, 1 named
1 troll
1 giant cave swallow
6 cave swallowmen
7 antmen
1 frogman
2 snailmen
3 kobold thieves
2 goblin thieves
18 goblin fighters (1 lasher, 6 pike, 4 sword, 3 spear, 4 wrestlers)

Losses:
4 dwarves, 3 dogs, some livestock
1 elf merchant
1 dwarf village liaison
1 caravan guard

Year 2 went pretty well. I lost 2 dwarves to beak dogs, but had two births so it balances out. My mega-construction is starting to take shape but is still going to need a few years to finish. Due to dumb luck my wealth has skyrocketed. Without intending to, I struck the top layer of hfs luckily avoiding the dangerous portion, and then I had a 300,000 dwarf buck artifact constructed.

Death Count

Whew, marathon session.

Finished the Structure of my mega construction and trained a small but strong military, whit a good coating of well crafted and above armour (got a legendary armourer!). Preceded to train the archers up by chasing around goats and harpeys, as wood is now in short supply through massive deforestation. Smote the Giant Eagle before it did any damage.

And the next year rolled on by, with all the fun of clearing out both the pool and chasm.

The Self destruct leaver is completed, mounted on a gold pedestal outside the fortress over the main road, when pulled it will send my inverted pyramid fortress down on the underground sections, crushing every tile flat, and dwarf with it.

Kills to date:

lots of things, don't know how to find out.

but everything in the chasm/underground pool
a small goblin siege
lots of goats, slugmen and snailmen
a group of dark gnomes
around 8ish harpeys
a giant eagle
and one pack of beak dogs

OK, so, didn't do the updates. Sorry. I got distracted, told myself the whole "one season" thing. So, a lot of badass DF to recount when there's time for a good and proper update, but let's just say I think I am the leader in the creatures killed department, having dispatched a megabeast in the most epic GOD-mode battle I've ever seen from the dwarves. I SOOO want to spoil it, and tell what happened, but... too epic. Got to force my dwarflings to butcher it now!

And we are done, literally, megaproject finished up, all uploaded. final count at the end of year 5 being.

the finished fort: http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-7190-toeink

the compleatly and utterly destroyed fort, after self destruct is pulled: http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-7192-toeink

HFS could not do this good a job. Notice how the pool is now draining into the gaping hole in the ground

I know I'm a little late to the party but I think I'd like to join.  I'll load it up and run the first year and post as soon as I survive it.
