I just put a bit too much air in... first time using the air pump and I guess I didn't read the gauge correctly. The manufacturer's standard is 29 psi and now my gauge reads 31~32. It doesn't seem that much over the limit, but still, I'm just new to driving.

Yeah... A bit too much won't do anything, but a lot? Like visibally too much?

Yeah, I had a friend who did that because he belived in the better gas mileage. Key word being HAD.

Its not all that dangerous unless you REALLY over infalted that thing, but it'll give you a much less smooth ride.

Also, the bottom of your tire tread will wear faster.

And better gas mileage? Not really.  Less traction, certainly.  Deflate them slightly.

You do not fill up your tires to the pressure on the sidewall. You fill them up to the pressure in the car's manual.

Yes, it will make them skiddier (less willing to bend and grip the road). Your ride will also be a bit bumpier, since the tires absorb less shock. Plus they will wear faster.

Granted, I doubt most drivers could so much as feel a 2 PSI difference, even on a racetrack. You're free to try letting some out, of course. It's probably a bigger importance to make sure tire pressure is equal. But like I said, 1-3 PSI isn't a huge issue.

That's the pressure on the wheels sidewall you are talking about.  This is a popular myth. Fill it up to the recommended pressure in the manual.
