'sun physics'

I love pseudoscience in the evening!

Can we try electromagnetic engineering?

You know what I mean, dammit. >:(

But magnets would be cool as well. :P

I'd settle for just the magnetics. Dwarven rail gun anyone?

To the dorf pulling the lever, the lever is just a lever. The magma pouring out of the mountainside is just a coincidence. To the dorf designing a pump stack from the magma sea, it is just that: a pump stack. No specific reason for it. It will never do anything.
for reasons best knows to themselves, the elves decided to explode

Because, you know, raytracing isn't expensive and does wonders when applied to a discrete cell type terrain.

I take that to mean it's not feasible?

Having giant mirrors would be AWESOME. I think it could be combined to make a mirror communication system for the dwarves too. Flashing lights =3 have it so you can set agreements with other civ's at any time, without a damn liason, or call for help.

We do need atleast a night day cycle once toady works out the light and fire bugs.

NOT THAT! I DON'T WANT MY MAGNETITE TO BE TURNED USELESS AND MAKE MY SOLDIERS STICK TO IT D:

We have those already. They're called Masterwork ballista with a legendary siege operator.

light is electromagnetic radiation... So technically, You'd have Urist Mc Staff Engineer, Electromagnetic radiation.

I think Toady hopes to add some kind of light source tracing at some point, mostly for weather effects like the sun being behind the large cliff/building/creature you're standing next to.

I'm not sure if a solar forge would be technologically feasible for the dwarves, but it certainly would be cool. And get some use out of all that weather that's going on. The other application, the solar cannon, just wouldn't work, though. A large, expensive, complicated goblin-frying machine that only works when there's sunlight has failure written all over it. It might work the first time, assuming the attack just happens to come when the sun is up, but goblins are more attack-by-night-types anyway, and they'd soon learn to wait until it's overcast.

Sun physics
It's called lighting. And it will be implemented later.

Sun Physics sounds more official though.

How about calling it "Advanced Synergistic Photon Raytrace Physics"? Sounds really complicated and awesome that way.
