Isn't that what capitalism is all about?
No.  Capitalism is about the self regulation of companies through competition.  When companies find ways to dodge this, they are violating Capitalism's biggest strengths.  Microsoft is all about abusing loopholes and the law to succeed.  Bill grew up in a legal family...bending the rules was common in his house.

Microsoft is not about the true competition that is Capitalism.  Patents, etc... all of these violate pure Capitalist ideals.  Anyone that can make your product better should be rewarded with other people's money.  Hiding behind the law only allows corporations to monopolize a market.  If you truly were allowed to provide better customer service and a better product at a cheaper price, that would be Capitalism.  As it is now, you can't provide a better product for fear of being sued for violating a patent on some technology required to run all the programs you are used to running.  Wine is only able to do what they do because of a loophole in the unjust law that restricts them from reverse engineering said software.  They analyze the output of the running application and guess the next appropriate formula.  It's a slow and arduous task that will always be a step behind and therefore not able to compete on equal footing with Windows.  It's like asking someone to build a house without using any material that is used by their neighbor (patents) and only letting them see what waste is thrown in the dumpster.

I also like the more recent makes of IE. Much more useful than it was previously, though admittedly, Firefox still wins out.
While I feel the same about Linux and Windows (Windows getting better, but I still prefer Linux)

I think Microsoft is just getting better at realizing that customers are ignorant.  They have gotten good at pulling the wool over your eyes....like our government and this health care/economy ordeal.  They want to tax the companies who will pass the buck to the consumer.  This makes the consumer hate companies more when it's the government's fault.  Microsoft still dodges taxes by selling software out of state and they manipulate the users into upgrading when they really don't need it.  They create and sponsor Microsoft specific training at colleges, supporting fly by wire computer training companies that only teach Microsoft software (not actual computer training) and get the consumer that spent money on learning Windows only to sell Windows so they didn't waste money on a worthless education.  "Software Evangelists" and all that... Tricky underhanded business is still their modus operandi.
Well thats how a monopoly rolls dude.

To explain a common observance about Internet explorer:
The reason you can uninstall Internet explorer?
The desktop and folder display system(The entire windows graphical user interface) are part of Explorer.exe. It's almost the same program.
In other words Explorer.exe=Internet Explorer.exe.
Can't really uninstall your dam operating system.
You can try though, and windows will do everything short of it.

Super revive!!!!

Essentially, Microsoft did the unthinkable and successfully crippled a small part of the humongous body which is the Russian spam network. I don't think anyone has ever done that before, much less had the gall to do so. They probably did it because they were sick of the spam and it was costing them money but think about it for a second...

If this was General Motors, GM would cry to the government and beg the government for help. Microsoft launched a covert operation to spy on and subvert the hackers at their own game. How frigging cool is that? It's a geek war! No big advertisements proclaiming how awesome they are (yet...), no lording it over other private companies, if these guys were in a movie, they'd be the guys fighting your shadow war for you.

The problem with Windows 7:

1. Everybody buys Vista. For lots of money.
2. Vista is crap, RAAAEEG!
3. Bettering is promised.
4. Windows 7 released. Problems of Vista solved.
5. Everybody buys Windows 7. For lots of money.
6. Everybody happy, Microsoft has saved the day, and is praised for releasing a functioning OS. And also got two OS's worth of money.

if anything, they've made windows7 too good. whatever they try to replace it with will probabl be another vista. Either they try something new and different that's not so well received because it doesn't do some things better, or they just make it "better', but people pan it for not doing something new and different.

Can we move past viewing software as a football team?  It's starting to be lame.

I'd like to point out that the Zune HD is a quite potent PMP.
It is not an application-centric device like the iPod Touch, and I wish people would stop comparing the two on that front.
It has a slightly smaller screen with far better image quality (because it's an OLED screen), runs a more powerful processor, and has a few, quality, applications, as opposed to the iPod's hundreds with little quality control.  Not to mention that the applications you do get for the Zune are free.  Every one of them.  The Zune has better build quality than the iPod, with actual edges on the sides that make gripping less awkward, and the accelerometer is a lot more responsive.  The sound it outputs is much higher quality - depending on the input tracks, there are parts you can hear on the Zune that would be silent on an iPod.  It does not support Flash, Java, or Silverlight, though Silverlight is rumored to be in the next update for the web browser.  And at $249.99 for the 32GB model, as opposed to $299.99 for the comparable-storage-sized iPod...
I'd say it's worth it if you're in the market for a MUSIC PLAYER, not apps.

Windows 7 is horrid for a few reasons.

The built in notepad which I can't find a way to replace doesn't support Unix line breaks, BUT WINDOWS XP'S DID. Seriously, the fuck? That's removing competition. This means I can't manage my todo list cross platform.

Windows Live doesn't let me switch between recording devices, so I can't play a 2 second clip from my goddamn music collection to prove a point. It is bullshit.

Even though Linux is now a viable desktop operating system, unlike when XP was released, Windows 7 insists on overwriting my GRUB bootloader. Seriously, I thought now that you and Novell had an agreement that you're obviously going to use wrongly, you'd do something about this.

It's bullshit. Windows is still a product infested with bad things. I'm using this as point to show ow Microsoft is still 'evil'. I'd list the good things about Windows 7 but it'd be too many.

I'll get to test out Windows 7 on real hardware in a week, as opposed to my horrid experience in Virtualbox. I'm not blaming that on Microsoft, though. ATI support in Linux was worse then than it is now (even though some would say it's horrid now, still).

My feelings on 7 will not change how I see MS. I hate the company with a passion. While some would wish the company a horrible death, that would be one of the worst things to happen to the economy. In better times, I would love to see the company shrink to a much smaller size.
