Which reminds me of something...   Try not to get hurt.  Like, at all.  If you get so much as a bruise, you'll be stuck with it for the rest of the journey, since fast-travel is out.

And ambushes will actually be slightly easier, since you won't be dropped right on top of a pack of wolves in the same way the fast-travel ambushes do...

The trick is not to piss anyone off by getting caught stealing, because all it takes is one crossbow bolt through the leg to cripple your chances.

EDIT: Oh god, that thread you posted. That's disgusting and yet pure genius.

I just now wandered up above the DF General Discussion board for the first time in weeks to find an pseudo-anniversarial Adventurer Challenge.  I remember the Mountaineering Challenge fondly, and would love to take part in this one as well.  It's about time I actually played the game this board is for again.

Pretty cool worldmap, reminds me of the civilization series with its world ocean.

I have been searching, and can find no save.

I want to play already.

it will rot

No, it won't.  I found an embark wagon filled with food and booze that had been there for years and the contents were still fresh.  I don't think it would be hard to dot the landscape with free refills.

I frown upon any attempt to plan ahead and make things easier. I intend on surviving solely on stagnant water and worms. My diet will be balanced by licking the blood from my blade.

I might try this sometime. I will do a few test runs first to see if I can mentally condition myself to want to survive while traveling a long distance but I'll likely eventually set a forest or town on fire to warm myself up in cold conditions when I almost to the end. I wonder if failed trips count as something in this challenge.

I'd like to do this. A medium map, right? Regular parameters?

Doing a test run I think I've solved a main problem. Resting seems to heal your wounds.

Here's the Worldgen file, complete with Worldpainter data, for that Medium Earthlike Map: http://pastebin.com/m4221b07f This is the raw image I used, with the landmasses, elevations, and temperature latitudes that it generates with. Terrain Types and histories are unique each time.

Following a successful generation of the above map, I am rather surprised to find that geographers insist on referring to the continent that absorbs over three quarters of the land mass of this world as 'The Rare Continent.'

There is a mighty dwarven city located in the northern most reaches of the world, deep within the icy wastes. However, the clever little dwarves have managed to locate their city below the glacier, with no accessible stairwell. There are now a hundred or so dwarves stood out on the glacier slowly freezing to death, staring rather longingly at the entrance to their city located a level below them.
