Cat cancels task, freaking out about a spot on the floor.
« on: October 04, 2009, 08:48:49 pm »

Alright, so my cat is nuts. She seems moreso than usual lately.

There is a spot on the kitchen floor she is staring at. It's just a tile. There are dozens exactly like it in the floor. She keeps looking at it and even circles around it now and then. She kinda stalks it. She's been doing this for about two days now; it's starting to freak me out.

I went in the basement and looked at every spot in the ceiling under the kitchen. There's nothing in the rafters--I just can't see anything there.

I washed and even scrubbed the tile to make sure there was nothing on it.

The cat's still obcessed with this tile. It's the same tile every time (6 away from the doorframe). What the ****?

Maybe a little bit of blood got on it from something someone cooked and you haven't fully gotten the smell off?

Honestly, I have no idea.  It's probably haunted.

It probobly has a slight smell to it, yeah. Cat's love odd smells and can spend... A lot... Of... Time with... Them...

Sofia stares at a spot in the kitchen, with a lot of interest.

Okay, there are a couple of ideas I'd have.

1) Mouse under floor? It sounds like you can see pretty close to directly underneath the tile, so we can probably discount it.

2) Psych problems? Cats occasionally get fixated with a spot. Did anything happen to the cat there? Spilled water on her or stepped on it?

3) Smell. My guess here. Even if a bit of raw hamburger got on the floor there, the cat'll be able to smell it. Depending on what you washed it with, you might have made it worse (was it an ammonia based cleaner perchance?). Try doing the entire area with liberal douses of vinegar.

4)

I know that dogs can get obsessive compulsive disorder. Maybe your cat too?

First ten minutes of play I ate my loincloth and then got some limbs torn off by a super friendly rat. Thumbs up from me.

Maybe

Maybe she's pregnant and that's the spot she's picked out for the nest?

Although they usually pick secluded spots. Huh.

Oh, my cat *rest in peace, Curie* also had her 'fixated' spot in kitchen. I had to clean it a few times in a row. After that, she propably lost the smell and gave up with the thing.

But I remember she began staring into the wall near entrance door after that.

A friend of mines cat became afriad of the carpet once.  It literally walked across it like it was hot coals.  Herky-jerky uncontrollable leaps and crashes and everything.  2 days later, the cat got over it.

Maybe it's just a side effect that our supreme overlords have to deal with due to the pressures of being supreme overlords.
