Redeemed myself to the poker gods! I played in two more tournaments and came in 1st and then 2nd respectively. Great play all around.

I'm trying to be more and more physically active. I just realized that my right arm is WAY more buff than my left, and I'm thinking I need to fix that.

Nobody cares about my trivial concerns!

Man, there's a big fat tall dude that always wears the same hoody and has a mohawk and almost never talks. His name is Charles. Apparently he's a magic the gathering player, I'm thinking of talking to him and learning how to play.

Awesome, that's the only card game I know how to play.

White FTW.

My unsolicited advice: don't go out of your way to start playing Magic, unless you feel like you missed out in middle school or something.  People I knew at college at least had the good taste to play D&D instead.  (better yet, don't play any of those if you ever want to meet girls outside of conventions)

I just wanted to learn how to play, not take it up. Though that's still good advice...

lol.  When I was 15... I made my own set of magic cards and modified some rules so you could play with just one deck.

I hand drew each one of them.  Amazing feat.  I didn't spend a dime (the paper belonged to my school folders :P)

I played for a while with my cousin and even taught my father (who got incredibly sleepy each time XD)

It's an interesting game.  But I hate the fact that it may rely on who has more money.

My friends and I just sort of pooled all of our cards a while ago, so I've got a giant box of them now the play with. I usually have about 30-40 decks made up at any given time, and we just sort of grab decks and have fun. Evens things out and makes it so that it doesn't matter who had more money or cards or whatnot.

Also, the thing about 'not meeting girls if you play magic/d&d/whatever' is ridiculous. It's not these activities that will stop you from dating, it's choosing to do these activities instead of activities that will let you meet girls. Or being a recluse that just can't talk to girls. Also, if you find girls who are already into D&D and the like, or willing to learn, it can be a good way to meet girls who have similar tastes as yours. (I think about half of the couples in my group of friends go together because of stuff like that) Just remember to go out and do other activities with people and you'll be fine.

You're completely right, the activities themselves aren't the problem.  But Josh already had some concerns about being an unlikable loner etc., so I guess my instinct is to tell him to keep pushing outward and meeting people and building his social skills until he's happy with who he is and who's around him, and then pursue nerdy habits from a secure position.

Fair enough, I just want to make sure he has a realistic perspective on the issue.

I played the guy, and got to learn atleast the basics of the game. That was fun.

There's a halloween party going on right now. I'm not a big fan of parties (as I've never had fun at any party I've ever been to since the beginning of my life) but I'll try to enjoy myself. I have a disposable camera, so I plan to take some pictures for memory's sake.
