"She had a miscarriage recently"?
« on: October 03, 2009, 05:36:09 pm »

DF never fails to amaze.
This dwarf was just let out of a cage. She was probably injured by goblins and fell unconscious on a cage trap. When I checked her thoughts I found this.

It should have nothing to do with her daughter, who's a child already, and was seen alongside the cage. There was no corpse or anything in the cage. Has anyone else seen this message before?

She was pregnant and had a miscarriage. It doesn't tell you.

Does anyone know what -causes- a miscarriage?

Not that I uh.. want to induce this in my military dames or anything.

Imagine your pregnant and a gobbo stabs/falcon punches you where your baby is.

Injuries have been reported to cause it, so has an unlucky roll on the Sparring.  I've gotten one from an insane dwarf that was locked away from food or water, so malnutrition is a factor as well.

Oddly, I don't think excessive drinking can cause a miscarriage.  Or excessive partying.

Dwarves would never have children otherwise.  As it is, they have way too many.

Hmm...I think I see what's going on here.

With [SLOW_LEARNER], dwarves probably don't sit around and talk anymore. They just stand in the same corner altogether, staring at each other, sticking their bearded lips out trying to make sounds. And giggling when someone actually says a whole word.

I keep forgetting to make sure that every dwarf in my military is male. Inevitably, my champions all start squirting out babies right after hitting champ status.

Perhaps we could research a possibility to use pregnant dwarves as missile and siege equiptment?

That would make sense, since they tend to have more mass and a rounder shape than the regular ones. Extra points if one gives birth midair. Catapult that shoots baby cannons, anyone?

This has crossed the line from dwarfy to disturbing. Besides, baby shields are downright useful, and thus far I haven't had any die (though I have two dwarf children still trying to recover from a close encounter with an orc pikemaster and hammerlord).

It would be nice if we could armor babies if dwarves are going to carry them into combat. The mothers don't worry me, but I had a father go berserk and kill another hauler after his military wife lost the baby to a goblin ambush.

My female champions carry their babies into battle with them.  Guess what the first goblin attack always hits?

Here's a suggestion: Save leather from puppies and kittens to make armor for your babies.

I've never tried it and there's a good chance it could make them freak out.

Reminds me of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0kJHQpvgB8>a certain Monty Python episode.[/url]

I'm sorry. I absolutely had to.

There was a pic circulating a while back with a dwarven mother and baby in full armor.  However, it appears that the link died. :(

I remember that pic, the one where the baby looked like a hand grenade? And the mother had a crossbow, and a "Can't Touch This" look?
