A thief has stolen <add artifact name> !
« on: October 03, 2009, 02:30:38 pm »

When I looked in the treasaure room to see if there was enough piles for an other coins stack...
I realised that the 500 gold coins that were there dissapeared.
And I realised that my 116,000¤ artifact mace wasn't there neither, but was there a second ago.
I also realised that the unfinished tower for the nobles (which was really clos from the treasaure room) had staircases to the outside with nothing to prevent a thief to come.
Is there a way to get back my artifact (even after ten years) ?

It should have made a huge message something along the lines of "YOUR ARTIFACT HAS BEEN STOLEN YOU FUCKTARD!"  did you check with the "l" key to see if the artifact is still listed?

it might just be that a champion grabbed the artifact to use it, but in general, once something is stolen, it's gone. I heard some of the stolen items actually go to the kobold cave though, so if you check in adventure mode..

"YOUR ARTIFACT HAS BEEN STOLEN YOU FUCKTARD!"

(I gotta hang around you more often - you make me look reasonable!)  :D

Anyway, this.

If it was a thief, the game would have paused, centered on the bugger, and told you about him. Even if he got away with it, there would have been the announcement. If you then ignored him, your mistake (and let's not get into how you let a thief get that deep into your fortress, ahem).

Use < l > to see all your artifacts. If it's missing, then check back over old announcements - it will be a big, bold color (red), and stand out from the rest (depending on your playstyle, ahem).

What? Red is obvious? I keep getting spammed with job cancellation.

... is exhausted. is getting a drink. is getting food. is going to bed.

You can adjust that via o-> "show all/some/none job cancellation" by the way. :)

The "such and such has been stolen" messages were always purple for me.  Or maybe it was the blood red (which does stand out from the cancellation-message red) that's also used for "Urist has become enraged!"

Yeah, there is red and there is RED.  These are RED.

Meanwhile, try the "some" setting.  Unless those drinko's are important to you.  ;)

I am happy to say that so far no kobold has managed to steal anything from me that was stored inside my fortress. They do seem to have a taste for old goblin junk that I appearently left somewere outside. The only thing that is worth anything is the steel junk, all else is just that… junk…

If you think that's bad, wait till you find out the kobolds steal goblin things..Right off the goblin invaders, I've had a goblin siege locked out of my fort, and soon I was getting messages of unclaimed iron arrows being stolen. Looking at the elite bowgoblin I've found he had no more arrows(Not even in his quiver), and random goblins were missing pieces of armour, which coincidently, were also announced as stolen.

Kobolds are no problem to any dwarf, I've had them ambush a herbalist(Since they stole enough goblin wealth to send ambushes) and the herbalist just killed them all.

I had a running kobold thief pass over/by a wagon then the wagon instantly disappeared while the horses and dwarves scattered and the goods laid on the ground with some additional logs. There was no announcement but I like to think that the kobold thief stole a wagon wheel or axel as he ran by.

Or he stole the ENTIRE wagon.

Is it possible to steal creatures?

No.

A wagon is defined as being a creature, and a creature is a < u>nit, not an "item".  A child (specifically) can be kidnapped, but a creature cannot be stolen.
