No, no.

Infantry spread out in a three deep line, Archers spread out in the same with one tile in between the troops. Pile the horsemen on the left flank.

I try to maintain a formation of 20 infantry forward and to the left of the archers(A) and 20 to the right of the archers(B). I will lead group B and group A has orders to slowly lose ground once the fighting starts. I am hoping to lure the enemy into being surrounded...

Thoughts: General moves his infantry up to fill the gap between the other two infantry squads, either before or after the enemy advances.

We wait for the enemy to move first.

I erm... wanted the right-hand group to be in line with the archers and for me to be with them.

I want R to move 8 spaces right and 4 spaces forward.
I want the right-most infantry group to head back 4 spaces and right 1.
I want the left-most infantry group to move back 1 space.

I am thinking that we will let our archers play with their infantry for a bit.

how far can our archers shoot and how quickly can the various units travel?

Both sides take shots at each other. The general was too far away to shoot. The enemy advances forward.

I suggest all the men take staggered formation.

The cavalry goes into staggered formation, the first squad attacks the enemy infantry using hit and run tactics, while the second squad and myselof swing around and hit the general. Bowmen should swing their fire to the bowmen and the two infantry groups on the right (and middle), leaving the left most group being attacked by my cavalry. So they do not hit us : )

Remember, staggered formation or your troops will get slaughtered by the bowmen.

EDIT:

NEW PLAN FOR CAV

First squad hits the infantry, second squad and I charges on and engages the general, when that has happened the first squad peels off and hits the general too. When they engage the general second squad peels off to the right and engages the infantry on the right flank, when that has happened first squad and I peel off and retreat back around the right flank back to our lines. Once we're past their infantry line second squad peels off and follows us, we regroup behind the general. All in staggered formation.
