Well that's a relief at any rate, lets just hope no dwarf like adamantine.

If a dwarf likes Adamantine, all you really need to worry about is that dwarf getting elected as Mayor...

When a member of the race I play gets moody and wants blocks I always craft 5 or so fresh blocks and I never have any problem with moody dwarfs not picking up stone blocks.

There is a real fear though for metal demands though, in my current fort one of my Nobles (who I can't/won't kill) has a thing for Bismuth. Not Bismuth Bronze just straight up Bismuth. The only thing you can do to satisfy a Bismuth demand is smelt bismuth bars, and veins of it are very tiny.

FIY, those are not "veins", but "small clusters" - never a footprint bigger than 3x3. Average about 4.5 per. 

But yeah, very tiny.
