Joint Baywatcher Project.

So, you can get sprites and animate them but cannot put a platformer together? Or you can write code, but cannot get any art done? Or maybe you simply have an idea you want fleshed out?

Well, the point of the JBP is to get everyone together and pull out something comprehensible: be it a game, a story or even a comic stip. The point is to get some teamwork to do something you wouldn't be able to do so otherwise.

If anyone wants to, I can get together a google docs group thing so that the coders have access to the piece of code or script they want to look over or modify. (I think you can put pictures in word documents in order to get artwork along)

If I could actually do anything other than make an interface in java I would Jump at this.

but I do not know how to do graphics in java, nor can I find any instructions.

What he said. I'd be happy to do something but I can't really do anything, so...

If this is actually going to be Java, I'm in. I have a basic grasp on most parts of Java programming, and have some experience with graphics and GUI's.

I have plenty of self-experience with C and OpenGL, but nothing with networking or drawing especially good art.

And rarely have that much time that doesn't go to something else.

I could probably contribute some art at some point, for whatever.

Okay, I think we have enough people to get together a simple platformer. First, I think we need to decide on whether to use java or C++ as a programing platform.

We also need to decide on a theme, but anyone up for a fantasy setting?

Boo fantasy.  I say science fictiony.  Maybe a guy with claws who can climb walls and ceilings and stuff.  I'm normally a font of ideas, but not at this hour.  Which is a dumb thing to say, but whatever.  I'm getting a powerful "Experimental Film" vibe from this thread anyway, but I'll chuck in my spitballs wherever appropriate.  Aside from writing and game theory, I'm a competent pixel artist who's been waiting for a real project to motivate me.

But it needs structure.  Structure!

Well, what I had in mind is pretty derivative, but I'll go ahead and put it here:

would it be too bad to avoid the Dwarven Scene entirely?  Why don't we make a brainstorm like we did hereand decide on something as original as possible?

It works, but as I said, we need to decide on a theme. The setting in my scenario is pretty derivative, but that doesn't mean it won't have a shread of originality in it.

The current contending themes seem to be fantasy and science fiction.

I've come to learn that what a project needs is a leader with both decision and flexibility and people who are not ashamed to contribute.

So if you are confident on a particular idea you should go with it but make you sure you get other people to believe in it too.
