deadly sleep
« on: October 01, 2009, 08:26:50 pm »

i just started modding with dwarf fort, and figured i'd try something simple and replace dwarves with horrible evil spiders. unfortunately when they went to sleep, they just stayed asleep until they all died. anyone seen something like this before? i'd appreciate help fixing my raws if i screwed up

What version of DF are you using?

There was a DF version a little while back with this exact bug. Had nothing to do with modding, just caused all the dwarves to not wake up after they fell asleep.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Alright, that's not the bugged version.

Maybe a few of your tags are conflicting with Fortress mode or each other, try taking out one at a time until they start working again.

Start with [SEMIMEGABEAST] and [LARGE_CHASM], those aren't normal for entity creatures.

Haha... dwarfs dying in their sleep.. that could be a new feature!! possibly a way for old dwarfs dying of old age or something :P (do they now? haven't noticed).

i've removed those flags you suggested, just testing it out now. if they die before they wake i know it's still broken

I had the same thing happen when I started on my own Custom race. I figured out it was either the [NOSTUN] or [NOEXERT] tag. I removed them at the same time so I'm not sure which one.

I know when you said 'beard' you were probably referring to the hair growing on the dwarf's face, but... AGH... MY EYES...!

It's NOEXERT. They have their tiredness fixed thus they cannot wake up.
This is probably a bug and should be reported in the Bugs section.

Huh.  I've got a creature with [NOEXERT], and I've never had trouble with them in fortress mode, though it makes pumping rather unbalanced.  They're [NOCTURNAL], but I'm pretty sure they sleep and wake up normally.

Well, then it may be nostun... Though weird. Some playtesting is needed. I remember I've got such problem too, but I don't remember the exact reason.
