Wow... Just amazing.
You just made me like dwarves!
Sure, I play Dwarf Fortress, but before that I'd had a distinct dislike of dwarves... In all fantasy novels I've read, they're usually annoying little pains in the rear, know-it-alls almost as bad as elves, who I loathe...
I'd gained some fondness for them as they died horribly carrying out my plans in fortress mode, but that was it. I would've much preferred to play as goblins.
But reading this awesomeness, I now like dwarves. That is just so epic. :D Great job!

Also: I like looking through Legends mode, although with the pages and pages of unrelated names, it's difficult... It'd be great if legends mode was fixed up. :)

their realy should be an acension system of some sort in this game xP some of these characters should become gods after death, because they would certainly be worshiped.

It's crazy that stories like this are hidden in legends mode; It makes me wonder what we've missed in the countless worlds generated. Nice work sorting through, narrating, and revealing it for us.

For those of you who are having trouble getting information out of Legends mode, a couple excellent programs have recently been made.  Legends Viewer 1.02  and   World Viewer2 0.14.  They both are based on Legends.xml and so not complete in all details, BUT when used in conjunction with Legends mode, can be very useful.  Both are still being developed and built upon.  Give them a try.  I find in most worlds generated, if you dig carefuly enough, you can find amazing stories both epic and heart-rending.  These tools may help a little to find such tales and they can be found right here in DFGeneral Discussion.

Do either of these work with 40d? Or just 2010?

2010 but the creator of worldviewer 2.0 is doing a bit of patching to make some of the info in 40d useable.

There is a 40d version I put up for world viewer, but 40d didn't export a lot of data, so it's missing much of what you regularly have with .31 worlds.

we could at least have family members have THE SAME LAST NAME so its easier to distinguish lineage...so maybe you could go "hey i recognize that family name! didnt i kill your daughter before? chop her up limb from limb, watch her suffer and cut her head off? I actually have her head here in my bag o' kills..."

I always change my dwarves' names myself in DM so I know who is related to who.

Makes me sad my old legendary wrestler from .40d wasn't around to help that civilization. She spit out 15 kids... after paralyzing her husband during a sparring session.

In old 40d, most people you met in adventure mode were probably related to some important historical figure or another, being descended from one of the few starting pairs that seeded that civilization. In the current version, most people you meet in adventure mode have been generated on the spot, with the exception of a few randomly placed historical figures. Even leaders tend to be spawned out of the ether. As a result, there are much fewer connections to find between heroes and peasants in the current version.
