Want to try something
« on: September 30, 2009, 11:43:19 pm »

I want a small population challenge. I'm tired of getting massive immigrant waves (seriously my smallest was just 15). Im tired of turning off all their jobs, or not turning off their jobs and leaving them to run like mad dwarfs. I also don't want to trade, so I have to take an anvil.

However, i'm undecided on what kind of challenge to do. So i'm asking you all.

Also suggestions on a location would be nice, otherwise I'm finding a fresh water aquifer and shunning the light of day forever  8)

Edit addon: also i'll be using the Mike Mayday graphics version.

Embark on a tiny island to  assure no interference from dwarf fools
Normally, I find em by looking around the edges of freshwater lakes for a spot where a river flows into and out of the same lake, creating a tiny island.

I've tried that island approach before, and mysteriously the dwarf traders managed to get onto the island. Freaked me at first because I hadn't bothered to make a depot for them.

I find the fact it had to many aquifers to pierce to be the main problem with a micro island, maybe I can find one that only has 1 aquifer level.

If you really dont want to deal with aquifers, you can remove them from the raws.

I think you should do a original 7 hermit challenge. Let one new dwarf in every year, based on their profession.

Dont ever change the dwarves professions.
All pure peasants goes into the military.

Or if the point here was a low population challenge, and not removing the hardship of micromanaging, find a real island, like this: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=39264.0

it seems the magnificent 7 has rocketed ahead!

Here are two sites that might work.

Site1 :  http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv275/Tahsir/site1.jpg?t=1254434179

Advantage, they are cut off from the rest of the land by a freshwater lake, and a river. Also, no aquifer. I can do 3 lake and 1 land tile in a 2x2 embark.

Disadvantage, it is likely to freeze at almost any time of the year.

Site 2: http://i691.photobucket.com/albums/vv275/Tahsir/site2.jpg?t=1254434295

Advantage, separated by a brook. Ocean, no aquifer.

Disadvantage, its rather large for what I look for. Its not perfectly separated by the brook. Also with so many trees it won't be much of a challenge to get work done.
