The contest of the Damned
« on: September 30, 2009, 09:13:41 pm »

i have an idea for a contest. instead of being given a task and rated on how well you did it, you are given a large list of things to do and you are given points on how many you do.

For example, you would get points for building a tower (3x3 is 5 points, 5x5 is 10, 10x10 is 20.) and you get points taken away the longer you take.

Do you think this is a good idea? Do you have any task ideas?

LIST

Building
A tower
  5 z levels tall
    3x3 = 50
    5x5 = 75
    10x10 = 150

  10 z levels tall
    3x3 = 75
    5x5 = 150
    10x10 = 300

A arena
  lowest dimension 10 = 25
  lowest dimension 25 = 100
  lowest dimension 50 = 300

A road
 At least 1 embark tile in length
  3 across = 50
  5 across = 100

Mining

Map features
 Magma = -250
 HFS = 500
 5 Z level open ground = -100
 Under ground river = -10
 Aquifer = 250
 Treeless = 100
 River = -250

 Flux = - 100
Map size
2x2 = -50
3x3 = -125
4x4 = -225
5x5 = -350
6x6 = -500

Sure, why not?

Do you provide the maps. or do we just build a tower and send the save?

My idea is that you can chose the map and you given points based on its features. if you get a map with no magma, you get free points.

Slow down, i don't even have a task list yet. You can, however brainstorm with me.

Make a ten z-level high tower.
More points for wider towers.
3x3 5x5 10x10 15x15 20x20

Get as much wealth as possible before the first elven caravan.

Carve/forge ungodly amounts of bolts, the better the matterial, the more points per bolt.
i.e. bone = .5 points per bolt, wood .75, copper 1.0, iron 1.5, steel 2.0.

Tweak as necessary.  ;)

We need to come up with an average, and then base every thing from there.

something of average difficult gets you 100 points?

That's fine.

And for the bolts, I don't think I was very clear. If we're doing this average points thing, then bone bolts should only 'count' as .5 of a bolt. e.g. The avarage task is carve/forge, say, 100 bolts. If you did them all out of bone, then you'd need 200 bolts. But that's quite easy.

i don't think that items should count for points, as that would be a bitch to count

assuming you used the bolts

you should also get points for doing thing to make your game harder. 300 points for no traps. 500 for having nothing blocking your entrance and having no crossbow dwarfs (separate achievement)

Create a road to edge of map? More points for the amount of sections, width & Material? Though that could also be based on mapsize.

How about creating a giant zoo?

Use walls, channels, etc to create areas for different creatures to roam freely in.

Get points for each type of creature you display.
Bonus points for displaying hard to capture creatures (GCS, Dragon, and the like).

Not sure what the point values should be.

How about round towers... and pylons?  I make lots of pylons.  Mechanical pylons, lava pylons, goblin powered pylons.
