Course it'll be different, it's our coal, if our Government doesn't want to sell it to the rest of the world, they won't sell it to the rest of the world.

I might be from, in, and/or around Australia, but I am too much of a try-hard to admit it...

On the education front, I haven't notice any spelling mistakes yet...

There's one.

Yes. If the goverment doesn't want to sell it to the rest of the world. However, there's no guarentee that the governemtn will go "oh no there'll be no coal in 70 years time, lets stop exporting", mainly due to the fact that a large portion of the outback economy is made up of coal exports. The uproar that it would cause would be phenonimal (just look at the stink selling off a few lazy assets in QLD is kicking up). It would be political suicide to rule that no coal can be exported, it won't happen (until its too late perhaps).

There is a substantial difference between "Exporting some coal for trade." and "Exporting all our coal and running out of coal to power our goddamn country."

When you really think about it, fusion is probably the best option for a future power source.  We can build it down here on earth, and the fuel for it, while right now must be specific hydrogen isotopes, can hypothetically be anything (low molar mass probably being preferred, though).  While admittedly I don't know that much about the process of making a reactor for it, it also seems relatively safe compared to even coal; something stops working, and the reaction stops, rather than going out of control or causing something to burst/catch fire.

And it's certainly safer than antimatter, but that could be said of anything.  That stuff is powerful, but far more dangerous than any other hazardous material ever before spilled.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

Also I am not convinced that antimatter is practical as a power source given that it doesn't go out of its way to occur naturally, might make a nice weapon though...

That's my point exactly. We're doing the latter, and noone will ever do the former.

In theory if we could come up with a feasable way to produce and contain Antimatter it would make an excellent way to store energy, fuel source etc. But it's useless as a power generation mechanism.

Wait, did this get derailed like the Texas thread?

ANYWAY Didn't the aussies get bombed by those japs in WW2? And the problem with bull sharks, dingos, rats, and the fact of being a continent and a country at the same time without any lakes I know of?

We've got a ton of lakes.

And yes, Darwin was bombed by the Japanese in World War Two, several times.

Darwin was bombed a little bit, most of the conflict we had with the Wapanese was in and around the Phillipenes though (Kokoda Trail being the most memorable instance).

And what's this nonsense about no lakes? We have plenty of lakes, even the middle bit has lakes, although they're smallish and called Billabongs.

So, fellow Australians, where all you guys live?
Rural Victoria.

About renewable energy: My house is on a 12 Volt, standalone solar power system. My parents built it decades ago.
