Pseudo-rural NSW here. Was born down in Wagga Wagga (so good they named it twice, as we all used to say) but grew up in New Zealand.

It's not a bad place at all. No country is perfect, not by any stretch of the imagination, but Australia's got enough of the good to make you want to see out the bad.

Australia has some awesome animals.  Prime example, the Kangaroo.  Those . . . I wish I could have one as pet (sort of).  And yes, I realize there are more things preventing them from being pets other than simply not being allowed to.

Never been there before.  I might like to, were it not for the spiders.  Although I might like to go in spite of those.  Difficult to say.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I'd be more scared by a kangaroo than spiders. The males can get huge, and they'll fight...

Oh and they used to live on the golf course and steal your balls if you hit them.

There's a herd right off my backyard. There were two males almost literally boxing, hand to hand, but every time they saw us watching, they stopped and looked embaressed.

Ugh. Fucking kangaroos. Literally. The walk between the dorms and classrooms at University went straight between some sort of breeding grounds for the local Kangaroo population. So walking to Uni you'd always have to take a stack of heavy books to beat them off if they decided they didn't like, and they never liked you. That and being woken up at 2am to the sound of Kangaroos mating right outside your bedroom window.

Oh, and the most relevant song ever for this line of discussion.

My view of Australian universities has been forever tainted enhanced by this.

I've been to Australia once before, to Melbourne. From coming NZ myself I was surprised at the lack of stereotypical Australian accents and at how nice everybody was.

However one reason I wouldn't live in Ozzy. No R18 rating for games (they only give M15+). No L4D2 for you sorry.

Mainly you will find the stereotypical Australians you all love and know outside of the bigger cities, in fact Melbourne in particular is unlike any Australian fantasy most people seem to have before they actually come here. (From the two hours of my life I have spent there)

And there is alot of raaaaaage in this small part of Queensland about L4D2  >:(

Hows the L4D2 thing going down? any protests yet?

Also, The only reaaaal thing that scares me about australia is that nearly everyone who lives there is a descendant of a criminal.

It aint saying much since those criminals built a better country than britain ever was :D

Another Aussie here - a Brisbanite.

If you don't think Australia is all that, you should at least give us some credit for all the DF Fans we seem to have.

Come to think of it, Aussieland is a pretty dorfy place.  There are mines and minerals everywhere, all sorts of wildlife trying to kill you, some really difficult biomes, and even though we do have nobles they are mostly completely ignored.

Lucky we don't get tantrum spirals.

...how nice everybody was.
This is more often than not the case with most foreign countries other than European ones. Unless that is just a special case with Americans. Or France.

South-east coast here. The Illawarra to be region specific.

Do not worry, those convicts were mostly non-violent convicts!

No, no it's not. We've found more coal since then.

start here, read some of the references.
Some key parts "At the current extraction rate, this would last 132 years. However, the rate of coal consumption is annually increasing at 2-3% per year and, setting the growth rate to 2.5% yields an exponential depletion time of 56 years (in 2065)."

Oh i see where the misunderstanding is; i was talking Australia specifically, not worldwide. If we keep increasing our usage and exportation of coal at the same rate as we have for the last decade or so, we've got ~200 - 300 years worth of coal left.

2. Everyone else being too fucking smart. I study at least 10 hours a day, every day just to pass, and some shlub gets drunk, passes out, and gets higher grades than me on the exam.

'at's me!
