Dwarf in cage, not mine
« on: September 29, 2009, 08:44:44 am »

Yeah, I know how to get him out.

But the funny thing is that he's not mine... He came with the merchants I think, but they have long since left (from another dwarf civ too). And he's no longer on my unit list. Dwarf companion shows that he has 2 other friends, 1 who's still hidden. The other guy is also not on my unit list.

What is he doing here, and what should I do with him?

He was probably the leader of a Goblin ambush squad. The fact that Dwarf Companion lists another hidden one means there's probably another group waiting outside.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Checked through DC. His civ is different from the goblins. He's listed as invader though.

And I can't seem to find the other 2 guys...

Hmm.. Well.. Since goblins are the only race that steal children, and he is listed as an invader, he must indeed have been part of a goblin ambush squad.

I don't know why his civilization is not the same as the goblin civ..
Maybe creatures retain their original civ number when snatched from their birthplace, and this dwarf belonged to another dwarven civilization than yours..

Or there are more than 1 goblin civ in your world. Don't know if that's possible though.

EDIT: Or... If you happen to be at war with the elves, he might have been liberated from the goblins by elves, and he was part of an elven ambush squad  ;)

He only appeared on the list when he got caught in the cage trap.

I think he actually got caught fighting the goblins... My military dwarves are off-duty, but one of my caught goblins lost his leg I think. I doubt my civilians did that. They were just walking through my front door, which is full of cage traps. Problem is the my civvies reload them, so they were there.

The other 2 guys, I can't find no matter what... No on list, and teleporting them to somewhere I know still doesn't show them.

EDIT: Also tried changing their civ to mine. Still can't find them.

Because you're using Dwarf Companion:

1) you can zoom to the locations of the other dwarves, which will tell you where they are laying in ambush.
2) is the civilization of the captured dwarf different from yours?

1) How do you zoom there?

2) Yeah. I suspect it's the same with the caravan that came earlier. My civ screen has 2 dwarf civs. 1 is mine (extinct), the other is a the new one that just traded with me.

Just caught the other 2.

Surprisingly, 1 of the dwarves is a Guard... How the heck did a fortress guard end up invading me?

I've had that happen too, with goblin ambush squads. It seems goblin fortresses have guards, just like dwarven / human settlements.
