Your true political self:
You are a

Social Moderate
(43% permissive)

and an...

Economic Conservative
(61% permissive)

You are best described as a: Centrist

You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.
***
I can't rip the image off, but I straddle the lines between Republican and Capitalist, and I am barely, just barely a Moderate.

I personally think OKCupid's overwrought libertarian bias speaks well enough from its labeling of the grid. Left-wing anarchism? Huh? What is this strange bunyip you seek? To say nothing of the rest of the demarcation of the upper quadrants...

Honestly, though, these things are perforce biased. That's as inevitable as fringe-clingers like me complaining about them being so.

I think a large part of the problem is just the general futility of trying to classify worldviews.

Quote
@Rezan: Actually it does mean I'm an Elite Liberal because the communists are uber authoritarian...(the big bad red commie corner)
Besides, I did this as a something of a LCS Quiz, I answered as if I was the replaceable "protagonist" of the game (and I got a near perfect score).

I apologise, I forgot the second axis. You're still not an elite liberal by those stats though. An elite liberal would not be that far left economically (basically, you have communism on the left there, and capitalism on the right, so it'd be more in the middle than anything else). Not sure what leftist economic policy and extreme libertarianism would imply.

By the way, I actually think that while the creators of the questions in the Political Compass test may have a libertarian bias, they placed the center of the compass pretty well. I looked at their coverage of the 2008 Primaries and I pretty much agree with their assessment. See, what they are right about is that to the European eye, every single American politician except for the extremists who are reviled even by most Democrats would be considered both economically and socially conservative. This also explains why the Republican party (the "conservative" ones) are so close to Christian fundamentalism and other groups and individuals traditionally considered extremist. Their opponents are already conservative, so if they want to set themselves apart, they pretty much have to either move towards the extreme or turn around entirely, and they aren't prepared to do the latter.

You seem to be assuming the Europeans are the centrist ones.

That's strange, I didn't pick up on that. No one would be stupid enough to say that Europe is centrist. There's fascism in Italy (Berlusconi, wonderful corrupt leader, fond of young girls), democratic socialism in Sweden, conservativism in Britain, and only science knows what else in the other countries.

huh?

Anyway, it just seemed that way.  Using opinions from Europe to argue that America is almost universally conservative is rooting the center in Europe, that's all.

Even then, what about this test taking into account the social (and possibly Conservative) positions of Africans and Asians and shifting the center to accomdate for that?

The US political center is right-slanted compared to most developed nations, not just Europe. To argue that all of them are left-slanted, while the real political center just so happens to precisely fall where it does in the US, is a pretty nice example of American Exceptionalism.

That's EXACTLY the point. There's an incredible variance in political ideologies even within one country, so someone looking at it from inside would pretty much find the center where the actual center is.
