can't get a GiantSpider out of cage.
« on: September 28, 2009, 02:30:05 pm »

I finalyl captured a GCS, its in a cage, I selected the cage and tabbed the bit next to it which usually lets animals out... but The GCS has just stayed in the cage and won't leave.

Your dwarves are too scared to go near it!  :P

If you gave them a biome then the Elves may indeed start turning up with Wagons in cages.
Well, it does tie in to the fact that personality-wise, dragons are nothing more than gigantic, scaly, firebreathing cats.

Have you built the cage? You can't unassign creatures from it until it is built.

Randomonioum is talking out of some body part that is not his mouth. Creatures in cages cannot frighten anything.

You might also want to try either pitting the creature, or building a level, attaching it to the cage, and emptying the cage that way.

I know that you need somebody with Animal Training enabled to transfer between cages. Is this true of releasing?

Animal Training is only required for transferring hostile creatures between cages - tamed creatures can and will be chained and released by anyone in your fortress, including nobles.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I rigged a switch up to it and through a save scum, successfully released it.
Now that i know i CAN release it... should I let it out now? Or wait til the Dungeon Master comes and have him try to tame it?
Also, can I let it wander about in a room forever? Or will it actually starve if I don't feed it Nobles meat?

Animals don't eat/drink.

Well, unless you're planning on making a GCS silk farm right now, no real point releasing it. Remember to make something to capture it back, and also note that it has Building destroyer I think.
