Deconstruct from the inside, Damnit!

put in a traffic option that stops dwarfs from walking on the square, barring insanity or impeding death.

my dwarfs keep dying when they get locked on the outside of my tower.

You can prevent a dwarf from doing something from a tile by building a wall there and then suspending its construction. When they finish doing whatever, cancel the wall.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I still have this problem when designating 'safe' tiles right next to each other to be removed. Five dwarves line up on designated tiles to remove the tile next to them, and four of them get bored and leave while the fifth finishes. Removing those five tiles took 15 tasks! Remove construction should act like a suspended task - dwarves will only stand there if there is no other place from which they could do their assigned task.

As for Realm's suggestion, it's a common problem. Untelligent is right, if you don't want dwarf to stand in a particular space while working, designate a wall to be built there then suspend the construction.

Although it works, it's still an ugly kluge of a workaround and there ought to be a better way to do it.

So - although I'm fairly sure it's commonly come up - it's perfectly valid as a suggestion, no?
