4th Malachite
No one was using the pool and everyone was scared to build a statue in the pool, so I tried to collapse one into the pool so I could tell the other dwarves it was a ‘sculpture garden.’  However, the cave-in destroyed the statue and knocked a peasant unconsious.

Hahahaha

I would, but I actually have to go right now. Sorry!

On a later save I actually built statues outside the pool, channeled to it and built a sculpture garden and they still refused to go there, i dunno wtf their problem is with that pool.

Is it more than 4 high at ANY point? if so that might be your problem.

Yeah, get it down to 4's with some threes in there. Best you can do probably. if at all possible get it to pure 4's. (not sure how you'll do it... maybe designating a pond and for it to be filled and keeping an eye on it?) but it's your best chance of training swimming without anybody drowning.

edit: FOUND IT! Wiki gives a vareity of reasons for swimming, but apparently for a swimming pool method your dwarves will AVOID it unless you force them into it, in which case they'll stand around until they learn how to swim (not sure how you'd recognize this O_o maybe "the more experienced" label turning up?) must be at EXACTLY 4, less, and they can't swim, more, and they drown.

Really, I'd install showers instead. http://dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Swimming#Waterfall_method

edit: also, is there room for 1 more >_>; not sure if I can participate or not, so if so, put me down for a tentative 10th slot? >.> <.<

I like to slip into bear caves around midnight and gently caress the carnivore inside before leaving a small cut of fresh fish and sneaking out.
