You awaken in a cold, damp room. You've been lying on an iron slate that was shaped like a mock bed. With a stiff back, you look around the room, only to notice four others doing the same. The year is -- or was, last you could remember -- about Two-Thousand & Twenty-Four. Artificial Intelligence has been nearly perfected, computers controlling the vast majority of everything in the world. This should make you feel safe, that was the intention. But nothing serene lasts forever. The Underground Chamber that you've awoken in is controlled by a mastermind computer gone rogue, or so it would seem. This Once-Protector of Humans has become the only thing separating you from your freedom. Your goal -- as is human nature -- is to escape. How you're going to go about it isn't clear, yet.

Recollection of Your Life: Craig was born in 2005, before the so-called 'technological revolution' that swept the world. He grew up with rapidly learning machines, with sentient AI always 'just around the corner'. He was never a very confrontational person, preferring to back down rather than fight, always quick to apologize. Always studying, alway learning. That was the way he lived his life.
In high-school, he became interested in physics. Even as early as 2020, the advantages of AI were evident. Mathematical problems thought unsolvable were brought to light. Soon, to succeed in any scientific field, a knowledge of programming was necessary. The job of the physicist was no longer to 'solve the problem', it was to 'come up with the problem'. The job of the programmer was to rewrite the problem in a way computers would understand it.
Craig was the sort of person liable to daydreaming. During lectures, he'd find himself staring off into the distance, pondering the nature of the universe. That seemed like mere seconds ago, yet now, here he was, half-asleep and trapped god-knows-how-far underground.

This life-changing event has given him a hatred towards machinery, and a void which he filled by working tirelessly as a grunt, earning the rank of Sergeant for only a few weeks before he was told to pack his things and leave; he had been replaced by a mechanized unit.
In a blind rage, Artemis broke into his station's armory and stole a set of polymer armor and an assault rifle, and tried to escape the base, when the mechanized soldier attacked...
