Lake embark
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:39:20 pm »

So we just got a new computer, and I decided to see what it could do.

I genned a world in d16, and looked around for a good embark site.

Then I found a 8*16 lake.

Long story short,

What am I supposed to do with all this?

Funny, I embarked on an 8x10 lake just a couple days ago.
2 years in, had 100 fps at the start, now I'm at 30, even though almost all of the lake creatures died(freezing lake!)
Personally, I'm building a compound in the middle of my lake, The only way into said compound is a clear glass tunnel/tube floored with gold, the middle compound has walls of clear glass, and the other compounds I haven't even started on yet.

._.

That's a lot of lake, you should build a budding fishing village right above it

Fishing is... not a good idea.

It takes about five minutes to scroll down the units list, all of which are carp or sturgeon.

HAHAHAHA
I consider myself lucky now, I had about 6 carp, and a million geese, giant geese, giant beavermen, beavers, ducks... so much goose spam.

Damn I want that lake...
I'm trying to think of things to do with.

Any other features? Magma? Magical Creatures from the lower depths?

How about recreating Venice from it? I know it's not exactly dwarven, but I've thought of doing a venice-like fortress.

Bonus if you rig it up to sink catastrophically.

Is there magma? If so, my reccomendation goes towards "cast obsidian underwater fort".
