You mean besides the current update, the one the DF community has been waiting over a year for in rapt anticipation? I would have to say that I am most interested in Toady just streamlining the game so that I can play the damn thing to the hilt without worrying about the framerate dropping to nil. My next largest concern would be him hammering out the whole system of traders and merchants into something not completely arbitrary.

Look in the list  "Future of the Fortress", you can see that toady are working a lot with squads and military, and when the next version release, we will be one step closer of the Army arc

Most of the stuff I'm looking forward to is coming in the next version, in particular all the new modding capabilities.

The Adventurer Skills arc seems cool, though.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

I'd like to see the Caravan Arc the most so that the human Dwarf Kings will work properly.

I want to send my troops trough the world and conquer everything!!!!
I can imagine, the succession fortresses will be too much fun!
I think that the magic stuff arc will be on in about some years :=(

I hope Toady sees this:

The beginning of the wizard arc could be implemented as early as the end of the army arc. All that is needed is a way to model the immortal wizard and his ability to raise armies a la Saruman/Uruk-Hai. This original wizard would simply be wise and omniscient, able to command lesser mortals for his own, non-trivial ends: he would play a mode bereft of nobles, kings, and probably traders, for example. Rather, the wizard's goal is manipulation and domination of world events (or maybe just benevolent guidance).

The wizard's actual magic spells could come into the system later.

In looking forward to the 7 terabyte file containing the genome of a dwarf. If you can imagine it, Toady will do it. It doesnt matter what, he'll get there eventually.

Actually, I'd love to see Toady implement something like the "genetic code" in Crusader Kings, maybe tie max skill levels to it somehow or skill multipliers or something, so that you could have particular "houses" (i.e. bloodlines) like a clan of masons, a clan of miners, a clan of armorers, etc.

Of course, then you'd need some way to arrange marriages and control breeding, so that you could eventually create a Dwarven Kwisatz Haderach...

But I also understand that a lot of other stuff needs to be done before burrows are introduced.

You mean, like the rest of the stuff for the next release, which otherwise will include burrows?

Huh? It will? Damn. I was hoping Toady would complete the Combat and Army arcs before that. Having a better way to organize my dwarves without more challenges from the outside will make the game pretty easy to not lose.

Country/army arc.

Wizard/magic arc.

Then wherever. I'd like do see a pantheon of gods, each one playing a role of the fortress.

I'd like to see a lot more goodies for modders (even though Toady is already unbelievably generous). Things such as more raw file customisation options, custom skills -heck, even just a token that makes creatures able to support the floor above them, allowing them to survive cave-ins. think of the practical applications of that!

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...
It should be pretty fun though.

Apperantly this is VERY VERY far away.

It's underground diversity for me, so I'll actually find interesting stuff underground.

A dwarf's unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Fortress which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts. Gold has not been proven not to exist, therefore it must exist.

Presentation/interface, by far.

DF is already pretty much the coolest game ever, but it's too darn clunky to play. :)
