See, I'm actually getting bored of DF recently. Not that the fortresses themselves aren't fun, but the management and military stuff is quickly becoming monotonous. So I asked myself the same question and now I'm asking everyone else too.

For me, the update I'm looking forward to the most are burrows and all the associated economy and management stuff, since I'm really starting to hate all the micromanagement I need to do due to my dwarves' stupidity and the usual sizes of longer-lived fortresses. But I also understand that a lot of other stuff needs to be done before burrows are introduced.

Right now, battles are a joke with even a halfway competent military. A few reliable champions can rout anything from small ambushes to enormous sieges arriving at the same time as a megabeast. And if you have traps, even champions aren't needed. Management (and the human factor) is the only challenge left in long-term games right now, so if Toady would take that away without providing something else in exchange, the game would really get boring.

So all things considered, the army and combat arcs are the ones I'm looking forward the most right now, after that (and a bit during) the caravan arc, and then the burrows arc.

I admit that I'm looking at things solely from the Fortress side, but that's because I enjoy strategy and management games more than RPGs.

I've always been most interested in the County arc, and the Army arc somewhat less so. Turning your tiny seven-dwarf settlement into the heart of a bustling kingdom... that'd be something.

Your stuff is good too, of course.

My favorite ones are County arc, Army Arc, Combat arc, Wound Handling arc and Burrow arc
That's the most interesting arcs in the game!

Not even joking, there's nothing in the devs that I find trivial or boring, I like all of it. I'm wairing for adventurer, army, and magic arc mostly.
IRC, I think the next arc to be worked on will be the caravan one.

Of the Version 2s it is the Wizard Arc

This, i love Adventure Mode and i would LOVE to be able to dig and build stuff in there.

I like it all, but to answer the question, I'm mostly looking forward to when we will be able to have multiple fortresses without abandonning/reclaiming.

Mostly I'd like having a mountainfort as your capital, then a fort in the forests to mine magnetite, and cut wood, maybe fish or hunt a bit, an oceanside fort for fishing, a fort somewhere for a megaproject, and all the forts would have to be capable of sending things between them, now that would be most awesome, and solve most problems regarding material problems(Noble demands glass windows on a sandless map? That's ok, I'll tell the ocean fort to go to the beach with a few bags, run out of your special secret metal? That's fine, go find a new deposit somewhere else, send it all home, and then run before bad things happen.)

Everything else that's in the list of arcs seems very nice to have too, dwarf skills in adventure mode would be great, building your own home, we might even see 1-man megaprojects.

Army arc, so I can send out my highly trained sadistic death squads out into the world to crush the opposing humans dwarfs goblins and forest elves into oblivian. (Before anyone asks I play my own modded civ pretty much all the time. Can't wait to remake them for the new version!)

Not quite an arc, but the wizard tower bloat.

You have a character that can be your avatar in dark magic and servants at your beck and call. You are your own authority, or at least merely subservient to the dark powers that you let enslave you. You can raise armies of monsters or corrupt existing races into abominations, and unleash destruction against the fantasy world and watch it fight back - in other words, orchestrate epic conflicts of good and evil, in scales unlimited only by the strength of your imagination and the ability of the program to respond, all from the safety of your desktop.

I think that the magic stuff arc will be on in about some years :=(

In looking forward to the 7 terabyte file containing the genome of a dwarf. If you can imagine it, Toady will do it. It doesnt matter what, he'll get there eventually.

I for one can't wait to create a wizard's tower and use magic to screw around with the very stuff of life to create invulnerable death machines, which I shall use to eat the world!

There really is a Wizard Arc.

As for Adventurer Arcs there are Eight which deal almost exclusively, with some cross over, with Adventurer mode for Version 1.
-Bustling Town Arc
-Relationship Arc
-Ghost Arc
-Affiliation Arc
-Scenarios Arc
-Adventurer Skills Arc
-Adventurer Parties and Entity
-Humanoid Arc

Though some of these are a lot less Adventurer exclusive combined with the Army Arc such as the Humanoid Arc (Bustling town not so much)
