Engravings have names!?
« on: September 27, 2009, 08:46:44 am »

I just noticed that some of my engravings were "named". I first noticed this when my engraver started making images of him making named images, then he made another image and this one had a name after it! It doesn't say this in the wiki, so I was wondering, is this new or old?

Masterful engravings have names. You can view them in legends.

They will, of course, accumulate at an alarming rate now that your engraver is Legendary.

Engravers are also incredibly vain, and very prone to commemorating their own prior engravings in the ones they're currently working on.

This is probably because, as mentioned, you'll wind up with a LOT of masterwork engravings, relative to anything else that will be produced in the fortress, but it can still be amusing.

This is probably because...

Nothing much of general interest happens at the average fortress.  :P

All engravings have names, I think.

When you 'k' over an engraving and then hit enter to look at it, it's name should be at the very top of the screen.

Wait, there are engravings that aren't named? What sorcery is this!?

It appears the TC was referring to engravings of things WITH names. These only occur in high-quality engravings.

All engravings have names in the sense that they are the names of the engravings, of course.

Alternately, it's easy to miss the name of an engraving if you're not looking for it. Seeing an engraving commemorating another engraving may have been a tip-off, and that only gets done for... I think masterworks and artifacts, but perhaps sometimes exceptional pieces, I'm not 100% sure.
