Sleep deprivation/morning-ness. That's normal.

+2 if it's Monday morning yet where you are.

Oh Lord. A religion topic.
*Takes a pinch of salt, holds nose.*

Why am I doing this why am I doing this why am I doing this

Sigh.

Ok, I can't help myself. Here we go...

Quote from: Various People
A whole lot of tomfoolery concerning the use and meaning of the word/name "God".
The guy who decided that it was a great idea to refer to the God of Abraham (IE Yahweh, Jehovah, the Christian "God") as simply "God" was a fucking genius. Seriously. The question "Do you believe in God?" takes on a whole new meaning depending upon who's asking. Whos God? Yours? His? Any one in general?

That poll question is retarded, and you can't get any kind of an accurate answer out of it. I declare it bunk.

Quote from: Gandhi
"Those who say religion has nothing to do with politics do not know what religion is."
;D I love Gandhi. Seriously, that dude has sooo many great quotes.

The big question is... are "Far to many people...' Christian?
D: Sensei-san, WHY!? You make me sad.
Especially since Christianity (or, at least, the Catholic flavor) is a quickly shrinking religion. And is quickly being replaced by a religion that out and out says "Convert or Die".

Quote from: The Bible
You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
-- Matthew 5:38-42
Ugh. I'll say this just once. Even IF the Bible was "Divinely Inspired"TM, it was still interpreted by, and written by, the creature that is Man. It is much easier to control a population that believes in the kind of self-sacrificing drivel above than the kind that believes something like... well, like this for example:
Quote from: The Dalai Lama
If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.
Quote from: Gandhi
No power on earth can subjugate you when you are armed with the sword
Quote from: Uncle Benny Franklin
Those who beat their swords into plowshares usually end up plowing for those who didn't.
I love those guys.

As to the Atheist/Agnostic argument. and Agnostic is one who does not recognize the divinity of a higher power, but does not take a stand on whether a greater power exists or not. And Atheist believes in nothing but his own smug sense of superiority. A tree, dirt, wind, or other worshiper cannot be an Atheist.

*Waits patiently for Exterminatus Extremus to hit thread.*

If you feel like beating up on a defenseless old man, be my guest. ::)
Can't say I care much for the guy either (or any Pope, for that matter), but seriously? Lame.

I think most of the light-sabre skill applies to normal swords too, so Pope would probably totally own you in a sword-fight.

I'm merely pointing out that you don't understand that to be an Atheist is to believe in nothing at all. If you profess a belief in a higher power, no matter what you call it, you are not a Atheist. Sorry to burst your bubble.

And while attempting to look up a definition for Atheism, I discovered that Atheists don't seem to understand what they are either. Whatever.  ::)

Star Wars Nerd Mode ACTIVATE!

Technically speaking, skill with a lightsaber would not directly translate into your typical swordsmanship. The only weight from a lightsaber comes from the hilt, whereas most swords are balanced such the the weight gets transferred to the tip so as to increase the cutting power at the end of the swing. A Jedi trying to swing around a broadsword or katana is as likely to hurt himself as a Crusader or Samurai trying to swing a lightsaber. A foil or rapier trained Swordfighter would have a much easier time adapting, as those movements rely less on heavy strikes but more on graceful, fast cuts and stabs. Speed vs strength.

Nerd mode off.

That is simply not correct. If you are unclear on the meaning of the word, consult a dictionary: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/atheist http://www.askoxford.com/concise_oed/atheism?view=uk
I would say I'm sorry to burst yours, but I'd be lying. :P

Please refer to my earlier statement about my attempts to look up a definition to back me up, my discovery, and then my choice to give up on you in particular, and "Atheists" in general.

Thank you, and goodnight. I wash my hands of that silliness.

Yes, I have read that post. Judging by your continued spouting of said drivel, I assumed your attempts had been unsuccessful and so have provided the above links for your convenience. Now that you have no further excuse, please acknowledge your error or at least shut the fuck up.

Speaking of definitions:
(and yes i am sure we can play one upsmanship with web definitions)

Theos, Theoi (Greek) [from theein to run, in reference to the planetary deities who perform the formative work in cosmic evolution; or cf Sanskrit deva, Latin deus (connected with Zeus or Dios) the bright or shining one]

God, gods; builders or cosmocratores. The two derivations are not antagonistic because the planets, stars, and suns are the bright and shining ones. Used in the triad of chaos, theos, cosmos -- three hypostases on the matter side of cosmic evolution -- meaning respectively the storehouse of cosmic seeds, the builders, and the universe built thereby.
