The Pope is so naive
« on: September 27, 2009, 07:30:50 am »

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8276608.stm

I'm facepalming so hard now that I can't feel my face anymore.
I'm so mad, and yet I laugh at this so hard.

If some of you don't know what I'm talking about here's the situation:

Communism in czech republic probably led into major atheism in said country.
The chech republic is now a free country, and the larger atheist area in europe with Sweden being second (correct me if I'm wrong)

The whole thing I understood this way (thanks to ridiculous commentary on news in my country):

The church looks at czech as a barbaric den filled with immoral people. Oh the irony, I think I would feel more free there than here...
The church knows that it is a free country and yet they insist that they return to christianity. The pope is visiting czech RIGHT NOW. He can be so naive sometimes

This deserves a facepalm. This action made church look like jackasses that want to control the universe. If you're not christian they will make you a home visit.

(This topic is not made to insult christians. Rather it is made to see how stupid some actions may be. Please don't turn this into a flame war.)

I don't mind religion if it doesn't contain " convert or burn in hell heretic!!!"

I'm a bit confused by his motives too.  If he's trying to convert non Christians, why doesn't he just go to, um, a non Christian country?  His speech makes it seem that "once a country has become Christian, you may never leave us!".

I've said it before, and I've said it again. Pope Benedict XVI is an asshat.

I'm a bit confused by his motives too.  If he's trying to convert non Christians, why doesn't he just go to, um, a non Christian country?  His speech makes it seem that "once a country has become Christian, you may never leave us!".

It's the Dark Side in him speaking.

I just went to a... I'm not even sure what to call it. You know the bible belt in America? With the people preaching archaic teachings that don't work in todays society with much speaking in tongue and shouts of 'preach it!'? I went to that.

MY FAITH IS FUCKED OVER MAN. Seriously. I've never had so many doubts. I know they're totally wrong (horoscopes don't cause cancer for one) but still, that people believe this stuff...

How can I associate myself with these people, not to mention the pope? I can do good without them, or Christianity. Am I just a coward? I don't know.

I actually did that in one of my own threads. :D

It's really your decision, Jack, but where I'm from Christianity is slightly more normal. Yup, just do good, that's what matters.

Well, Benedict's theology is sound. It's his methods that aren't. And also he's an arse.

Well, it was an experience. But it was so, so weird. I guess I'll move on. I don't need to pretend these people have a say on my faith, I can continue believing without letting them tarnish things.

I think that, in general, we need Priests and Bishops who actually know what the hell they're talking about. I was at Mass last Sunday, and the homily was basically incoherent garbage because the officiating priest didn't know what the gospel that day was about.

(Rooster, I know you're an atheist, so sorry for religioning up your thread. :D )

Be careful Vester, I don't want you to get warned or anything for possibly baiting, as it can be construed that way.

Awww I'm not baiting. :-\

I just don't want Rooster to get offended if I accidentally go off on a religious tangent.

Cool, but I'm still not going to pursue the topic if it's all the same to you. It spirals out of control way to quickly.

Take solace in the fact that the 'convert or burn in hell' idea disgusts me.
