What to Do With Captured Fire Imps
« on: September 26, 2009, 10:47:00 pm »

On my current fortress, there was an exposed magma pipe. So I decided to set up an array of cage traps.

Sure enough, in about a year, three fire imps blindly stumbled into my cages. They are now sitting in my animal stockpile, along with a hoary marmot and two mountain goats.

I have 41 dwarves right now, so I'll probably get a dungeon master in the next 2 migrant waves. So, what to do with 3 fire imps once they are tamed?

Note: There are two more imps still in the magma pipe, as well as a fire man and a magma man. I plan to capture them as well.

Also, can fire imps breed? That would be awesome.

As far as I can tell from the raws, Fire Imps cannot breed OR be tamed :(

You could always just edit the tags to make them tame.

Interestingly, Armok's name actually originates from arm_ok, a variable in one of Toady's earlier games that kept track of how many of your arms weren't missing.

Edit tags to allow War Imps. Put them in cages that are released by pressure plates. Wake up and smell the burning goblins.

I'd rather toss them back into the magma...

Yes, you'd get burning goblins. But also burning dwarves, burning wood stockpile, burning booze.... if your dwarves are near the fireballed area.

Well, done right, I think you could do a Dragonfire Pillbox but with Imps instead.  It shouldn't be too much trouble to redo the front entrance, or add a small pill box outside that would be controlled by a lever.

Just, missed fireballs might set the area on fire.  I think it's why Dragons are the creature of choice, Cone attack.

Edit:  Or sell them to Elves, if you still have them coming.  They deserve each other.

Hehe I modded mine a while back so that they breed and I have a policy of trying not to kill the last male and female. Makes the magma pipe much more fun.

Hmm, maybe I will do that.

Of course, if I didn't, I could always just make a Gauntlet for immigrants to go through...

Hmm, that is a pretty awesome idea. My dungeon entrance is also in the middle of a sand desert so no chance of setting the world on fire. Dealing with orc sieges by baking them in their own steel armor...

The biggest risk is dwarves collecting burning equipment, but I guess you could leave things forbidden until the burn away.

Here is a phrase many may like: "Sudden Death, FIRE ELIMINATION ROUND!!!"

Or you could make a purge pit.

Stockpile booze all along the front entrance, and then forbid it. That way you blow the gobs up with a booze explosion

...except that booze explosions (do they actually explode, or do the just boil away?) don't do any damage.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

It looks more like an orange-red soda fizz volcano.
