So basically there's a a series of cracks heading off the edge of my map like a chasm, except they're only 1 tile deep and are also brook tiles. There are some bits that cut through the next level up that appear to have been full of water and have since flooded the immediate area turning it into a muddy brook. I can clearly see the water is draining off the edge of the map but I have no idea where it's coming from, aside from the few squares near the edge, they're all 7 deep. Anyone else had something like this?

Running 40d and using cheat-o-matic if that matters.

oh.... i think i had something simillar to this once... it was fun. then the game crashed due to a common bug dealing with a liason....




do you have a screenshot that you could post? i suck with descriptions and need a picture to help

I've seen this before, this would be considered the headwaters of the brook.

Aside from one or two tiles that's pretty much it, draining off the bottom edge.

All you did was just have the headwaters portion in your embark area.

yeah that, i did have that. just seeing if i was reading it right, tho mine had trenches cut further into my mountain that were dry, like it eroded away.

essentially its like in real life where you have to have streams merge together to create a river, tho because this is the games universe, it has to be done in a less realistic way, thus a smaller area of streams merging into a larger river. tho in real life it is usually caused from melting snow and or glaciers.

That's the beginning of a river tributary.  The "chasm-like" are incidental - erosion either happens, or doesn't, during world gen. And they are not a true chasm - they are only erosion.  Often with a river on a mountainous map you'll have some sheer cliffs and find a river at the bottom of it - dwarf heaven has that in the lower left corner iirc.

i run on 10-30 fps, depending on my dwarves.  i wish i could run it faster.....

no i dont. i can play my PS3 while playing DF. and it lets me stategize.

This happened to my little bro earlier today. I was like "what the fudge?"
But then I figured out that it must be the source of the brook.

This reminds me of a mapspot I found a while back, that had that brook structure connected to a brook that led to a chasm about half a 12x12 away, and a underground river that started at the surface and wound to a chasm spot on the map and also had a one zlayered ug pool....DF water does strange things....and that map killed MY framerate, and thats a task.

Awesome, thanks for clearing that up for me so quick. Any ideas on why it flooded around the upper level?

And Manchild, it does run near 100fps most of the time,
