Because God could tell you that he is good and that you shouldn't worry about it.

How does that have anything to do with the question?

You've got me all confused now.

I can't talk to the catfish, i do not have that ability. God however, does have the ability to talk to me.

But you assumed earlier that an omniscient being could convince a catfish not to fear a python hose, why could that being not convince you?

No i didn't, reread my post. I said if the people were omnipotent then they could tell the catfish that the pipe is good and that it shouldn't worry about it, i never said anything about convincing the catfish, merely informing it.

And? What's the point of informing the catfish if it won't change anything?

I get the feeling none of us is understanding the others.

And from now on, I post here only if it's REALLY NECESSARY or if we need a mediator.

I don't know if it will change anything or not, i'm not a catfish.

I do, however, know that God informing people would have an effect, because i am a people.

But you just said you'd argue with him!

And I'm pretty sure the catfish was a metaphor, for, well, you. But it turned into a literal catfish somewhere along the lines.

There. One argumentative statement and one actual clear-headed clarification. I'll try to reduce the first and increase the latter, but it's HARD. I've got nothing better to do, after all.

I would argue with him, because being the inquisitive person that i am i'd like to hear some reasons for his decisions, even if the reasons are "I'm God, now shut it."

Simply because i'd argue with him doesn't mean i would do so indefinitely, or that i wouldn't agree in the end. Nor does it mean that it wouldn't have an effect, i just wouldn't immediately drop onto my knees and start hailing the divine.

God has a big thing for people choosing to follow him, and do the right thing, of their own free will. If he just appears in front of people and tells them exactly what they need to do to live the perfect life, there's little choice, because, after all, you're not gonna argue with God.
And I suppose hurling someone into a firey pit for all eternity isn't in any way coercive?  I mean, if a dictator said "You can say anything you like, but if you say anything against me in any way I'll have your thrown into prison and tortured horribly for the rest of your life" would that be free choice?
